Audi A1: Multiple Window Regulators Failed Simultaneously

Im struggling with my 2015 Audi A1 (gasoline, 60770 km) where all power windows stopped working suddenly. The car diagnostic shows a window regulator error. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Did you need to replace the entire window motor or was it just a reset problem? Want to know what to expect at the repair shop since my last mechanic visit was quite costly.

Recently encountered a similar issue with my 2012 Audi A3. After replacing the vehicle battery, all power windows stopped responding, showing the same window regulator error code. The root cause turned out to be a power window initialization issue. When the battery is disconnected or replaced, the window control module loses its programmed settings. This requires a window reset procedure rather than replacing window motors or regulators. The reset process involves: 1. Turn ignition to ON position 2. Press and hold window switch down until window fully opens 3. Release switch 4. Pull switch up until window fully closes 5. Hold switch up for 2 more seconds 6. Repeat for each window If the reset fails, there might be underlying issues with the car electronics or window motor. In my case, the reset solved the problem completely. However, if you notice grinding noises or jerky movement, the window regulator might need replacement. Worth checking if the battery replacement was done recently, as this is a common trigger for window control issues in Audi vehicles. Otherwise, have a professional diagnose whether its a simple reset or mechanical problem with the power window system.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The reset fix worked great and saved me from unnecessary window motor replacements. Since window troubleshooting can get expensive, wondering how much you ended up paying for the diagnosis and reset procedure at the shop? Would be helpful to know for reference. Also curious if your power window controls have worked properly since then or if you experienced any other electrical glitches? My A1 seems to be running fine now but planning to keep an eye on the window regulator system just in case the issue returns.

Good to hear the window reset worked for you too. I can share that my repair shop visit came to 290 Euro total, which covered both diagnosing and fixing the window regulator initialization problem after my battery replacement. The power windows have functioned perfectly since the repair, no window motor issues or electrical glitches for over 8 months now. The car electronics are all working as they should. The repair shop explained that these initialization problems are quite common after battery work on these models, but once properly reset, the window regulator system typically stays reliable. Just keep in mind that if you hear any unusual sounds from the window mechanism or notice jerky movement, it could indicate a developing issue with the window switch or other components. But a proper initialization usually resolves these symptoms completely. For what its worth, keeping records of any window-related repairs can be helpful if warranty coverage questions come up later. My window controls have been trouble-free since that one repair.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I wanted to share my experience at the mechanic to close this out. The diagnostic fee was 120 Euro and after confirming it was just an initialization problem, the window reset procedure only took about 30 minutes. The total bill came to 180 Euro which felt reasonable compared to what replacing window motors would have cost. The mechanic showed me how to do the reset myself if it happens again after battery work. Since the repair last month, all door panel controls are working perfectly. The window troubleshooting turned out to be much simpler than expected. Really glad I checked here first before assuming the worst about needing new window motors. Good learning experience overall, sometimes car electronics just need a proper reset rather than expensive parts replacement. Keeping this fix in mind for any future window regulator issues.
