Audi A2 Climate Control Dead: Faulty Temp Sensor Alert

Need help with climate control failure in 2003 Audi A2. The automatic temperature control stopped working completely and the AC wont turn on. Error codes are present in the system memory. Based on some research, I suspect the interior temperature sensor might be faulty. Has anyone dealt with similar temperature sensor issues? Particularly interested in hearing about repair experiences and workshop solutions. What was the actual fix in your case and what did it cost to repair?

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a climate control failure in a 2003 Audi A2, initially suspected to be due to a faulty interior temperature sensor. However, after thorough diagnostics, the actual issue was identified as a faulty control module, not the sensor. The control module replacement, costing 450 Euro, resolved the problem, and the climate control system has been functioning well since. The discussion highlights the importance of proper diagnostics to avoid unnecessary part replacements and ensure effective repairs.

I encountered a similar issue with my 2005 Audi A3 1.6 FSI. As someone with moderate car repair experience, I initially tried basic troubleshooting when my climate control system started acting up. The temperature control system showed similar symptoms, no response from the automatic climate control and AC failure. The temperature sensor replacement seemed likely, but after taking it to a workshop, they discovered it was actually a loose connection at the HVAC sensor plug. The fix involved cleaning the connector pins and securing the wiring harness properly. The total cost was 95 Euro, which included diagnostic time and the repair work. The climate regulation system has worked flawlessly since then. Before suggesting specific solutions for your A2, it would help to know: Have you checked if the blower motor is running at all? What error codes are you seeing exactly? Does the manual fan control still work? When did the problem first start, was it gradual or sudden? This information would help determine if youre dealing with a similar connection issue or if its actually a failed temperature sensor that needs replacement.

I had my last service at 156643 KM. The sensor diagnostics revealed multiple error codes, but after a thorough temperature reading analysis, the workshop found a different root cause. My climate control issues were actually caused by a faulty control module, not the temperature sensor I originally suspected. The temperature control system now works perfectly after the control module replacement, which cost 450 Euro including parts and labor. The sensor replacement would have been cheaper at around 150 Euro, but the comprehensive diagnostics showed it wasnt the real problem. The workshop also found and fixed some corroded wiring while doing the repair. My automatic climate control has been working flawlessly for the past 3 months. Really glad I got a proper diagnosis instead of just replacing parts based on assumptions.

Thanks for the update on your A2's climate control issues. Similar to my A3 experience, proper sensor diagnostics really made the difference in finding the actual problem. While my issue turned out to be a simple connector problem, its not surprising that your control module was the culprit. Control module failures are actually quite common in these models. The HVAC sensor system usually works fine, but the module that processes the temperature control signals can degrade over time. The 450 Euro repair cost is in line with what I would expect for a control module replacement. The corroded wiring you mentioned is worth highlighting. In my case, after fixing the initial connection issue, I had the workshop do a complete check of the climate system wiring. This preventive step helps avoid future temperature control problems. Good to hear youre back to fully functional automatic climate control. This kind of feedback helps others understand why thorough diagnostics matter instead of just swapping parts based on common symptoms.

Thanks everyone for the input on my A2 climate control problem. Really helped having experienced feedback while dealing with this issue. Started this thread thinking I had a simple temperature sensor fault, but learned its crucial to get proper sensor diagnostics before jumping to conclusions. The climate regulation system works great after the control module replacement. While 450 Euro was more than I initially expected to pay, it was worth it to fix the actual problem rather than waste money replacing parts that werent faulty. The corroded wiring repair was an important catch too. For anyone facing similar HVAC sensor problems, my advice would be to get a proper diagnostic scan first. The temperature control symptoms can be misleading, and what seems like a sensor issue might actually be something else entirely. My automatic climate control has been working perfectly since the repair, which confirms it was the right call to let the workshop do a thorough investigation instead of trying quick fixes.
