Thanks for sharing your experience with the moisture sensor issue. I went through exactly this with my A3 2.0T about 6 months ago. The malfunction indicator light was constantly on, and the electrical fault turned out to be more complex than initially diagnosed. The sensor testing revealed multiple issues, including a bad ground connection that was causing the car sensor to send incorrect readings. This turned up only after the mechanic did a thorough diagnostic check. Did your repair hold up well since then? Curious about the total cost too, mine ended up being around 450 Euro for parts and labor. Just want to compare notes since these sensor fault problems can sometimes indicate other underlying issues.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. The water sensor repair on my A4 has worked perfectly since the fix. The mechanic found a much simpler solution than your case, it turned out the sensor fault was just due to a loose cable connection that needed proper securing and cleaning. Total cost was only 95 Euro for fixing the faulty connection. The malfunction indicator light hasnt come back on since, and the engine runs smoothly now. Much cheaper than a full sensor replacement, which is what I initially feared might be needed. The moisture sensor readings are now consistently accurate according to the latest diagnostic scan. Your case with the ground connection issues definitely sounds more complex than what I dealt with. Its good you had a thorough diagnosis done, as car sensor problems can sometimes mask deeper electrical issues. Actually worth mentioning that proper car diagnostics saved me money here, a less thorough shop might have just replaced the entire sensor unit unnecessarily.

After getting great advice here, I wanted to update everyone on how my A3 sensor issue got resolved. Found a specialist auto electronics shop that actually took the time to do proper car diagnostics instead of just rushing to replace parts. The malfunction indicator showed the same moisture sensor error, but the technician discovered the main problem was actually a corroded wiring harness affecting multiple sensors. The thorough sensor testing revealed this was causing inconsistent readings. Total repair came to 380 Euro including: Wiring harness replacement, New moisture sensor, Complete system diagnostic check, ECU reset Car runs perfectly now, no more rough idle or check engine lights. The shop even showed me the damaged parts and explained how the sensor fault developed. Much better experience than my previous repair attempts where they just kept replacing unusual parts. For anyone facing similar issues, definitely worth finding a shop that specializes in electrical diagnostics rather than going to a general repair place.

Last month I handled a similar moisture sensor issue on my 2008 Audi A4 2.0T. The symptoms matched exactly, rough running and persistent check engine light. Car diagnostics revealed the water sensor was sending incorrect signals to the ECU. The actual fix involved replacing the faulty moisture sensor unit and checking all connecting cables. The main problem was corrosion buildup on the sensor connector pins, which caused intermittent readings. A proper sensor testing procedure confirmed the original unit had failed completely. This repair requires specific expertise with auto electronics, particularly Audi sensor systems. The job itself wasnt overly complex, but accessing the sensor location needed careful handling of surrounding components. This is a serious issue that can lead to engine performance problems and potential damage if left unaddressed. Important points to consider: Have all sensor connections checked for corrosion, Request complete car diagnostics, not just code reading, Ensure replacement parts are OEM quality, Get the ECU properly reset after repair The key is finding a shop with proper diagnostic equipment and experience with VAG vehicles. This isnt a repair to attempt without proper tools and expertise.
