I own the 2012 Audi A5 in question. Last service performed at 157000 KM, about 3 months ago. Thanks for sharing your experience. No error codes available yet as I havent done a scan. The SRS light appeared without any prior work being done on the car. I just checked and there are no active recalls for my vehicle. Actually seeking recommendations for a reliable OBD scanner that can read airbag sensor data effectively. The car safety system being compromised is my main concern right now, especially since I do a lot of highway driving. Would rather get this crash sensor issue sorted quickly rather than risk having non-functional airbags.

Thanks for those details about your A5. Regarding OBD scanners, after my experience with the restraint system issue, I invested in the VagCom VCDS scanner which effectively reads airbag and crash sensor data. While it was pricier at around 199 Euro, it has already paid for itself by helping diagnose multiple issues with my A4. The automotive safety diagnostic capabilities of basic OBD readers often cant access the airbag control module properly. From my experience dealing with similar SRS warning issues, you really need a scanner that can communicate with the specific airbag repair codes used in Audi vehicles. Until you can get it scanned, avoid disconnecting the battery as this could trigger additional airbag system codes. The fact that the light appeared without recent work suggests it could be similar to my sensor connection issue, but its crucial to get proper diagnostics done soon. Given your highway driving, having fully functional safety systems is essential. Have you noticed any other warning lights or unusual behavior from the car? Sometimes airbag system issues can be related to other electrical problems.

Thanks to everyone who shared their insights about my SRS light situation. After reading about the sensor connection issue, I feel a bit more optimistic that this might not be a major airbag repair problem. I will definitely invest in the VagCom VCDS scanner mentioned, since having a reliable diagnostic tool makes sense for long-term ownership. The 199 Euro price seems reasonable considering the importance of automotive safety systems and the cost of professional diagnostics. No other warning lights or electrical issues present, just the SRS light and restraint system warning. Will book an appointment with a qualified shop that can properly diagnose the crash sensor and check all airbag connections. Better to address this promptly rather than risk compromised safety features. Will update once I get the diagnostic results and know exactly what needs fixing. Really helpful to hear from others who dealt with similar issues.

Had a similar issue with my 2014 Audi A4 last year. The SRS light suddenly came on during regular driving, just like yours. As someone with moderate experience working on cars, I initially thought it might be a major airbag system failure. After taking it to a workshop, they ran a diagnostic scan which revealed it was just a loose cable connection to the airbag sensor. The automotive safety system is quite sensitive to these connection issues. The repair involved cleaning and properly securing the connector, fairly straightforward fix that cost 95 Euro including diagnostic work. The SRS light issue can indicate various problems though, from simple connection issues to more serious airbag repair needs. Some cases might be related to airbag recalls, so that's worth checking too. Could you share: Any error codes you might have from scanning the system? Did this start after any work was done on the car? Have you checked if there are any active airbag recalls for your specific model? This would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced or if it might need different attention.
