Audi A6 Control Module Nightmare: Telematics Gone Wrong

I had almost the exact same issue with my 2010 Audi A4 2.0TFSI. With some experience working on Audi electronics, I can share what worked in my case. The symptoms matched perfectly, instrument cluster warnings and system malfunctions. After multiple error codes showed up, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a faulty cable connection in the SOS emergency call module. The system reset they performed initially did not resolve the issue. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Checking all plug connections, Replacing damaged cable connectors, Testing emergency call functionality, Final system reset Total cost was 95 Euro including labor and parts. Since the fix, all automotive electronics have worked perfectly with no more warning lights or malfunctions. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: Which exact error codes are showing up? Are there any patterns when the warnings appear? Have you noticed any correlation with weather conditions or temperature? Did the issues start suddenly or develop gradually? This information would help determine if your A6 is experiencing the same root cause as my A4 had.

Last service was at 135000 KM with all the regular maintenance items completed as per schedule. Thanks for sharing your experience. Just wanted to add that my error codes disappeared briefly after disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, but they came back within a few days. The telematics control unit is showing call failure messages regularly now. The SOS signal indicator keeps flashing intermittently, especially during cold starts. Getting multiple U-codes which seem related to communication failures between modules. Will get the exact codes from my scanner tonight and update here. The issues developed gradually over about 2 weeks, starting with occasional warning lights before becoming constant. Has anyone tried cleaning the connections before going for full replacement? 95 Euro sounds reasonable if that fixes everything. The workshop quoted me significantly more for a complete system reset and module replacement.

Thanks for the additional details about the error behavior. Based on your description of the gradual onset and temporary fix after battery disconnect, it definitely sounds similar to what I experienced with my A4. The flashing SOS indicator during cold starts and U-codes pointing to communication issues strongly suggest a connection problem rather than a failed control module. In my case, cleaning the connections alone provided temporary relief but did not fully resolve the automotive electronics issues. Some key points from my experience: Battery disconnect only provides temporary relief, Cold temperature sensitivity often indicates connector problems, U-codes typically mean wiring or connection issues, Full module replacement is rarely needed The 95 Euro repair on my car focused on fixing the actual connection issues rather than just replacing parts. The higher quote you received likely includes unnecessary component replacement. I would recommend: 1. Get the complete diagnostic codes 2. Have the connections inspected and cleaned first 3. Only replace the control module if connection repair fails 4. Request focus on the emergency call system wiring Looking forward to seeing those specific error codes. They will help confirm if you are dealing with the same root cause I encountered.

Thanks for the input. After reviewing all the suggestions, I think I will start with the connection inspection route before considering a full control module replacement. The constant U-codes and diagnostic codes coming back after the battery reset make sense now, given the likely connection issues. The emergency call system problems during cold starts definitely match what others experienced. Will book an appointment focusing specifically on: Complete system diagnostic scan, Checking and cleaning all connections, Testing the SOS signal functionality, Control module communications check Going to request they start with connection repair before suggesting any replacements. The 95 Euro repair cost sounds much more reasonable than the full replacement quote I received. Will update with the specific error codes once I get them from my scanner. Hopefully cleaning the connections resolves the warning lights and system reset wont be needed. Just worried about safety with the emergency call feature not working properly.
