Audi A6 Diesel 2012: Engine problems and experiences with workshops

Hey guys, I have problems with my 2012 Audi A6 Diesel, mileage is already at 174321 km. The car has some quirks: check engine light is on, engine turns itself off, longer cold start time, engine power is lost, rough engine running, jerking when accelerating and sometimes it won't even start. I had the feeling that it could be due to the fuel pump. Have you ever had similar symptoms with your cars and what was your experience with the garages? Would love to hear your stories after having a really bad run with my mechanic last time. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Audi A6 Diesel is experiencing multiple engine issues, including the check engine light being on, engine shutdowns, extended cold start times, power loss, rough running, and starting problems. The owner suspects the fuel pump might be the cause. A similar case with a 2015 Audi A4 was resolved by updating the fuel pump software, which corrected the engine performance issues. The suggested solution is to have the fuel pump software checked and updated, potentially resolving the problems.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey buddy, I had similar issues with my 2015 Audi A4. Turns out it was really WRONG software values for the fuel pump. My check engine light was also on and the car was running rough. At the garage they did a software update on the fuel pump and that was it. It was a serious issue as the fuel pump was not working correctly and was affecting my overall engine performance. Haven't had any similar issues after that. Hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for the tip! It really sounds like it could be the same thing that my Audi has. Do you happen to remember how much the software update for the fuel pump cost at the garage back then? And has everything gone smoothly since then or have there been any other problems with the car?

Hey, glad I could help! Yeah, I remember the repair costs. Jesus, that was just €45 to fix the software values for the fuel pump. Totally affordable, right? Since I had the car at the mechanic, the fuel pump fault was fixed and I've had no more problems. The car drives like new again, really brilliant! And the price wasn't bad either. So, hopefully your Audi will be running again.

Oh man, €45 really is a bargain. I'm reassured to know that the mechanic was able to solve the problem with the software update. I'll go straight to the garage tomorrow and have it checked. Thanks a lot for your help, buddy. I can't wait to see if my Audi runs as well as your A4 after the repair. I'll keep you posted on how things go with my car. See you then and be safe on the road!
