Thanks for sharing your injector experience. I also had a defective injector in my A6 that caused hard starting and rough running. A proper injector test revealed uneven spray patterns, requiring replacement of two injectors. The fuel injection system needed thorough cleaning too. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Also wondering if youve had any other fuel rail or cold start issues since getting it fixed? My repair was about 6 months ago and its been running great, but always good to know what to watch out for.

Had the injector work done last month, total bill came to 515 Euro for replacing the faulty cold start injector and cleaning the fuel system. The hard starting issues and rough idle completely disappeared after fixing the defective injection valve. No problems since the repair. The engine starts instantly now, even on cold mornings, and maintains steady idle from the get-go. The injector test showed it was definitely the right call to replace it, as the spray pattern was seriously uneven. The thorough fuel system cleaning they did as part of the service should help prevent similar issues from developing. Good to hear yours has been running well for 6 months. These modern diesel injection systems are pretty reliable once properly repaired and maintained. Just keeping an eye on fuel quality and doing regular fuel system maintenance should prevent most cold start problems from returning.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Finally got this sorted with a mechanic who really knew their stuff. The engine misfire turned out to be exactly what was discussed, faulty injectors causing rough idle issues during cold starts. The repair took about 4 hours total. They ran full diagnostics and found 2 injectors with poor spray patterns. The mechanic showed me the test results and explained how this was affecting the fuel injection system. They did a complete fuel system cleaning along with replacing both problematic injectors. Total cost came to 780 Euro but worth every cent. The cold start problems are completely gone now. No more multiple start attempts needed and the engine runs smooth right from startup. Been about 2 weeks since the fix and its running better than ever. Really appreciate all the advice that pointed me in the right direction for proper diagnosis and repair.

Recently dealt with similar cold start problems on my 2015 Audi A7 TDI. The symptoms matched exactly, hard starting in the morning, rough idle after start, and multiple cranking attempts needed. The fuel delivery issues were traced to a faulty injector in cylinder 2. When injectors fail, they often cause uneven fuel distribution, especially during cold starts when precise fuel metering is crucial. The diagnostic showed inconsistent spray patterns and carbon buildup. The repair required removing and testing all injectors. One was completely defective and two others showed signs of wear. The fuel system needed a complete cleaning to prevent future issues. This is a serious repair that requires specialized equipment and expertise, as modern diesel injection systems operate under extremely high pressure. After replacing the problematic injectors and cleaning the fuel system, the cold start problems disappeared completely. The engine now starts immediately and maintains smooth idle from the first second. If experiencing these symptoms, its crucial to address them promptly as faulty injectors can lead to increased fuel consumption and potential engine damage over time.
