Audi A6 Door Locks Dead After Mechanic Service

Unable to lock/unlock car after mechanic visit My 2023 Audi A6 (gas, 119769KM) has developed an issue where the automatic locks stopped working completely. Cant lock or unlock any doors, either with the key fob or interior controls. The door sensor lights on the dash stay on permanently. Had it at a mechanic last week for regular maintenance, wondering if they might have damaged something. Could this be a faulty door contact signal or something more serious with the car alarm system? Looking for similar experiences and recommendations for getting this fixed properly. Not keen on going back to the same shop after a previous bad experience.

When my Audi A4 2020 had similar automatic locks issues, the problem traced back to a damaged wiring harness. The technician discovered that previous maintenance work had pinched the main door wiring, disrupting the contact signal between components. This is actually a serious issue requiring immediate attention, as faulty door locks can compromise vehicle security. The car alarm system relies on proper communication between the door sensors and the main control unit. The fix required: Complete inspection of door wiring connections, Replacement of damaged wiring harness sections, Recalibration of door sensors, Reset of the central locking system Based on these symptoms, particularly the constant door sensor lights, there could be a disconnected or damaged connector near the door hinges. When wiring gets disturbed during routine maintenance, it can affect both the car alarm and locking mechanisms. Recommend having a certified technician specifically check: Door contact signal integrity, Main wiring harness condition, Control module connections, Door sensor functionality Worth noting that driving with malfunctioning locks poses safety risks and should be addressed promptly.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the wiring harness issue. Had the exact same problem with my A6 last month, all door sensors went crazy and the automatic locks completely stopped responding. The door switch was getting constant power, keeping those dash lights permanently on. Did you end up fixing everything in one go, or did other electrical gremlins show up later? Just wondering what kind of bill I should expect for a similar repair. The control module in these cars can be quite temperamental once the wiring gets disturbed.

Just wanted to update, got my A6 back from a different mechanic last week and the faulty door contact signal has been completely resolved. Turned out it was simply a loose connection where the wiring plugs into the door sensor. The repair only cost 95 Euro to fix the cable connection and realign the component. Much simpler than the full wiring harness replacement I initially feared. No electrical issues since the repair, all automatic locks working perfectly and those annoying dashboard warning lights are finally off. The door switch is responding normally now too. Definitely worth getting a second opinion instead of assuming the worst case scenario with these kinds of electrical problems. The car alarm system and all door sensors are functioning exactly as they should. Really glad it wasn't a more complex control module issue.

Thanks everyone for the helpful input. Wanted to share how this got resolved, took the car to a different mechanic who properly diagnosed the electrical issue. The door switch and sensor problems were actually caused by a pinched wire that got damaged during the previous maintenance work. Total repair cost came to 180 Euro, which covered fixing the wiring harness and recalibrating the automatic locks. All vehicle doors are now working perfectly, no more warning lights or sensor issues. The central locking system responds normally to both the key fob and interior controls. Much better experience with this new shop. They showed me exactly where the wiring was damaged and explained how they fixed it. Really helped restore my confidence after that frustrating first repair attempt. Glad to have this sorted without needing any major component replacements.
