Audi A6 Multiple Electrical Failures, Clutch Switch Alert
Summary of the thread
An Audi A6 experienced multiple electrical failures, including a dead gear selector display and cruise control issues, initially suspected to be caused by a faulty clutch pedal switch. However, further investigation revealed extensive corrosion in the main wiring harness near the transmission, leading to damaged connections. The repair involved replacing corroded sections of the wiring harness and the safety switch, resolving the issues. It highlights the importance of thorough diagnostics to identify underlying electrical problems rather than assuming a single component failure.

Thanks for the detailed advice on the wiring harness issue. After reading this, I had my Audi A6 checked and indeed found similar problems with corroded connectors causing multiple electrical failures. The safety switch and ignition problems were actually symptoms of the bigger issue. Would you mind sharing what the repair costs were in your case? Also curious if youve had any recurring issues since the fix. My car has been running fine for two weeks now but Id like to know what to watch out for.

Great to hear you got it sorted. After getting my A4 properly diagnosed, it turned out the main electrical fault was indeed a faulty clutch switch, not the wiring harness I initially suspected. The repair was straightforward, the mechanic found a loose cable connection at the clutch pedal safety mechanism that was causing the intermittent starting problems and electrical glitches. The total repair came to 95 Euro, which covered fixing the defective connection. Much cheaper than replacing the entire wiring harness! Since the repair 6 months ago, the car starting issues are completely resolved and all electrical systems are working perfectly. If your car starts showing similar symptoms again, check if the pedal feels different when pressing it, as this can be an early warning sign of a failing clutch switch. Its worth monitoring since these switches are a common failure point that can trigger multiple electrical system warnings. Good to hear your car is running well after the fix. Regular inspection of electrical connections can help catch these issues before they cause car stalling or starting problems.

Thanks everyone for the helpful insights. Just wanted to close this thread with my repair experience. After taking it to a certified shop, they found extensive corrosion in the main wiring harness near the transmission. The gear selector issues and cruise control failures were caused by damaged connections, not just a faulty clutch switch as I initially thought. The repair cost 850 Euro including parts and labor. They had to replace several corroded sections of the wiring harness and clean all the connection points. The safety switch also needed replacement since moisture had damaged it over time. Its been running perfectly for 3 weeks now, no more car stalling or electrical gremlins. The clutch pedal feels much more responsive and all dashboard functions are working normally. Definitely worth getting it properly diagnosed rather than just replacing parts based on guesses. For anyone facing similar symptoms, make sure to have the entire electrical system checked, not just individual components. Sometimes what seems like a simple clutch switch problem can be part of a larger electrical issue.

Had the same problem on my Audi A4 2017 with similar symptoms. The car stalling and electrical gremlins pointed to more than just a clutch switch issue. After thorough diagnosis, it turned out the main wiring harness connector to the TCM (Transmission Control Module) had corroded pins causing intermittent connection problems. The gear selector display going dark and cruise control failures are classic signs of communication issues between modules. While a faulty clutch switch can prevent starting, it typically wont cause multiple systems to fail simultaneously. Quick way to check: If wiggling the wiring near the transmission area temporarily restores function, its likely a connection problem rather than the clutch switch. This was a serious repair requiring special tools and dealer-level diagnostics to properly fix. The entire wiring harness section needed replacement to prevent future issues. Look for signs of water intrusion near the transmission area. If you spot any green residue on connectors, thats corrosion and needs immediate attention. Best to have a professional diagnition to prevent causing additional electrical system damage.
