Audi A6 Oil Warning Persists Despite Full Oil Level

Help needed, my Audi A6 keeps displaying oil pressure warnings despite proper levels. This concerns me since my last mechanic visit was not great. The dashboard shows multiple errors including an oil pressure warning light. The car is a 2014 A6 2.0 TFSI with 72017km on the clock. I suspect a faulty sensor in the oil monitoring system but want to hear if others experienced similar issues. Has anyone dealt with this and can share what the actual problem was? Looking for suggestions before heading back to a shop.

The oil pressure warning despite normal levels points strongly to a faulty sensor or wiring issue. Had similar symptoms on my 2011 Audi A4 2.0 TFSI. The oil monitoring system was reporting incorrect readings due to a corrupted connection between the sensor and control unit. The fix required checking the oil sensor wiring harness where it connects to the pressure sensor. The plug connection had deteriorated, causing intermittent false readings. While not a serious mechanical issue, these warnings should never be ignored until properly diagnosed, as actual oil pressure problems can destroy an engine quickly. In most cases with these symptoms, the problem traces back to either: Damaged wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector, Failed oil pressure sensor, Oil gauge control module fault The repair involved replacing both the oil sensor and associated wiring to ensure reliable readings. Definitely get it checked soon, while likely just a sensor issue, confirming proper oil pressure is critical for engine protection. Suggest having a shop perform a complete oil monitoring system diagnostic. They can verify actual oil pressure readings against the sensor data to pinpoint whether its truly a faulty sensor or wiring problem.

Thanks for the detailed reply regarding the oil sensor issue. My mechanic also discovered damage to the wiring harness near the oil pressure sensor connection. Once replaced, the false warnings disappeared completely. Getting the car maintenance done fixed the problem, but I am curious about your repair costs. What did you end up paying for the oil detection system repair? Also, has the sensor issue stayed resolved or have you experienced any similar warning lights since the fix?

Just got back from having this resolved. The automotive oil sensor problem was fixed for 95 Euro, turns out it was exactly as suspected with the loose cable connection at the oil pressure sensor. The mechanic found and repaired the faulty connection in the oil monitoring system, and the warning lights have completely disappeared. Since the repair three months ago, the oil gauge has been working perfectly with no false readings or warning lights. The sensor issue hasnt returned at all. This matches what I expected since the root cause, the defective wiring connection, was properly addressed rather than just resetting the system. For anyone encountering similar oil sensor problems, getting the wiring connections checked first can save money compared to immediately replacing the entire sensor unit. Most oil monitoring troubles stem from connection issues rather than complete sensor failure.

Thanks for the input. I finally got my car fixed yesterday. The mechanic discovered corrosion in the engine oil sensor wiring, causing those false pressure warnings. Total repair cost was 120 Euro, which included cleaning the connections and replacing a small section of damaged wiring in the oil monitoring system. The service took about 2 hours. They tested the oil pressure directly to confirm the sensor was now reading correctly. After fixing the wiring, all warning lights cleared up. Been driving for a few days now with no oil sensor alerts. Really glad I checked here first, saved me from unnecessarily replacing the entire sensor unit. Understanding it was likely a wiring issue helped me better communicate with the shop. Will update if any issues return, but so far the car is running perfectly with accurate oil pressure readings.
