Audi A6 Sedan problems with the EGR valve
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Audi A6 diesel is experiencing engine issues, including the engine light being on, stalling, power loss, rough running, a strong exhaust smell, and shaking when idling. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the EGR valve, which may be defective or jammed. A similar issue was resolved in an Audi A4 by replacing the EGR valve, leading to improved performance. It is recommended to have the EGR valve checked at a garage to confirm the diagnosis and address the problem.

Well, that sounds quite similar to what I'm experiencing. With my trusty Audi A6, which has already driven 186543 km, I notice that the problems started after the last service. I will probably visit the garage and ask specifically about the EGR valve. Thanks for the tip and your experience report!

No problem, I hope I was able to help. With the mileage, your A6 has of course already run quite a bit, but the EGR valve should still be able to fulfill its function in any case. Mine has around 200,000 km on it and since the valve was replaced it has been running smoothly again. Apparently it is a weak point in these models. Good luck that your problem is so easy to solve! Let us know what the workshop says.

Great, thank you! With your information, I definitely feel armed and will contact my garage about the EGR valve. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this is the problem and that it can be solved quickly. As soon as I know more, I'll give you an update!

Audi A6 3.0tdi Problem Error code: P040100 What did you replace? Would cleaning the EGR pipe be sufficient? Thank you in advance

Start by checking if the EGR valve is clogged or stuck, as this can often be resolved by cleaning. If the EGR pipe is also clogged, cleaning it might help improve the situation. However, if the valve itself is faulty, replacement might be necessary. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!

Hey, of course I can contribute something. I'm not an expert, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. I had a similar thing happen with my Audi A4, 2010 model. It definitely sounds like the EGR valve is the problem. I had exactly this problem. My garage quickly found the fault: EGR valve defective/jammed. I had it repaired there for 355 euros. Quite expensive, but since then it has been running perfectly again. Perhaps you should also have the EGR valve checked at a garage. Can you provide more information about your car? That could help to make a more accurate diagnosis.
