Audi A7 Door Lock Failure Returns After Recent Fix

My 2021 Audi A7 (155360 km, gasoline) suddenly stopped locking and unlocking. Already had a similar issue fixed at a mechanic last month which cost me 450 Euro, but now its back. The car sensor lights show no error messages, but the automatic locks just wont respond. Based on some research, I suspect its related to the door sensor or door switch not sending proper contact signals. Has anyone dealt with this before? Looking for advice before heading back to the shop.

I experienced this exact issue on my 2018 Audi A5 last winter. The vehicle doors stopped responding to both key fob and internal controls. After inspection, the problem was traced to a faulty door switch connection in the driver side door. The door sensor was actually fine, but the wiring harness connecting it to the central locking system had degraded. This created an intermittent contact signal issue that prevented proper communication between the door switches and the main control unit. The repair involved removing the door panel and replacing the entire wiring harness assembly. While not a major mechanical issue, it required specialized diagnostic equipment to properly identify the failing component. The car alarm system was also affected since it relies on proper door sensor inputs. If your symptoms match, no error codes but complete failure of the locking system, its likely the same root cause. Given your previous repair, I recommend having them specifically check the wiring harness connections at all door switch points. The recurring nature suggests either an incomplete initial fix or a related component starting to fail. This type of issue typically worsens over time as the connection becomes more unstable, so addressing it promptly is advisable.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had the same frustrating door latch issues with my Audi A7 back when it was around that mileage. The automatic locks and door sensor problems kept coming back until they traced it to a damaged control module, not just the wiring. Can you remember what the final repair cost was in your case? Did any additional issues pop up with the door locking system after they fixed the wiring harness? I want to know if I should prepare my wallet for something bigger if this happens again.

I took it to the shop last week, and Im happy to report the faulty door contact signal issue has been fully resolved. The mechanic found that the malfunction came down to a deteriorated cable connection at the door switch, much simpler than my initial wiring harness problem. Total repair cost was just 95 Euro, which included diagnosing and fixing the loose plug connection. Far better than expected, especially compared to the previous repairs. The vehicle doors are now responding perfectly to both the key fob and internal controls. Since the fix, the car alarm and central locking system have been working without any problems. No additional door sensor problems have surfaced. This repair seems much more reliable than my earlier wiring harness replacement. The mechanic confirmed that once these contact signal issues are properly diagnosed and fixed at the source, they rarely return. Keep in mind though, if you notice any inconsistency with the door switches, best to get it checked early before it affects the entire locking system.

Thanks for the input. Finally got my car back from the shop yesterday. The electrical issue turned out to be more complex than expected. The mechanic found multiple problems, not just the door sensor but also a corroded connection in the main control module. Total repair came to 680 Euro, which included replacing the control module and rewiring two door switches. They also updated the system software while they had it open. More expensive than I hoped, but at least all vehicle doors are working perfectly now. The automatic locks respond instantly, and theres no more strange behavior from the central locking system. Lesson learned, when these electrical problems start, better to get a complete diagnostic rather than just fixing one component at a time. Could have saved money by addressing everything at once during my first visit last month. The mechanic explained that these door latch issues often cascade, with one faulty component putting stress on others. Makes sense why the problem kept coming back. Hoping this comprehensive fix keeps everything running smoothly for a while.
