Audi A7 Sunshade Stuck, Common Fix Revealed

My 2017 Audi A7s electric sunshade is malfunctioning, its completely stuck in one position and wont move anymore. The system shows an error code. This issue appeared suddenly without any warning. Has anyone encountered a similar problem with their sunshade and managed to get it fixed? Im particularly interested in knowing what the actual problem was and what parts needed replacement. Would really appreciate if you could share your repair experiences and approximate repair costs.

I had a similar issue with my 2015 Audi A5 last summer. With some experience working on car electronics, I first thought it might be a simple fuse problem, but it turned out to be more complex. The sun blind motor had completely failed, causing the window visor to get stuck in position. The error code appeared on my dashboard too, just like yours. After attempting basic troubleshooting like checking fuses and connections, I took it to a workshop. The diagnosis revealed that the motor that controls the sunshade movement had burned out. They had to replace the entire sun blind motor assembly to restore UV protection for the car interior. Parts and labor came to 330 Euro. Which specific error code is your system showing? Also, can you hear any noise when trying to operate the sunshade? These details would help determine if youre dealing with the same issue or if its something different. The A7 has a slightly different sunshade system than my A5, but the core components are very similar. If you could share: The exact error code, Whether theres any grinding noise, If the issue started after any specific event (car wash, extreme weather) This would help provide more targeted advice about your situation.

Last service completed 2 weeks ago at 11912 KM. Yes, I am getting error code P0616. When trying to operate the sun visor, there is a faint clicking sound but no movement. The issue started right after a particularly hot day when the car blind was frequently used. The car window visor system worked flawlessly before this. Based on your experience, it sounds like I might be facing a similar motor failure. I am concerned about the repair costs, as my warranty just expired. If the motor assembly needs replacement, I will need to budget for that. Would you recommend trying any basic troubleshooting steps before taking it to a repair shop?

Thanks for providing those additional details. The P0616 code and clicking sound you described are exactly what I experienced with my A5 before the motor completely failed. The symptoms being identical after heavy usage during hot weather strongly suggests motor burnout. Basic troubleshooting steps I tried before the workshop visit: Checked and reset the fuse (located in the main fuse box), Cleaned visible parts of the sunshade track, Attempted a system reset by holding the sun blind button for 10 seconds None of these resolved the issue because the interior accessory motor was indeed burned out. The clicking sound you hear is typical of a failing motor trying to engage but lacking power to move the mechanism. The repair cost for your A7 sunshade repair might be slightly higher than what I paid (330 Euro) since the newer models use an updated motor assembly. Based on my experience, trying to operate the system further could cause additional damage to the sun protection mechanism. A professional diagnosis would be the safest option now. The complete motor replacement solved the problem permanently in my case, and the car blind has worked perfectly since then.

Thanks for the input. After hearing about your similar experience, I think I will go ahead and book a service appointment for my A7. The symptoms match exactly, the clicking sound from the car sunshade and error code P0616 are clear indicators of motor failure. I tried the basic troubleshooting steps you suggested: Checked fuses, Cleaned the tracks, Attempted system reset Unfortunately, none worked. The sun visor remains completely stuck. Given the risk of causing more damage to the window visor mechanism, I wont attempt any further DIY fixes. I will start setting aside around 400 Euro for the repair, considering the newer model might cost more than your A5 repair. Better to fix it properly now than risk more extensive damage to the car interior components. Will update once I get the final diagnosis and repair completed. Thanks again for sharing your experience, really helped me understand what Im dealing with.
