Thanks for sharing your experience with the tailgate motor issue. The wiring harness problem seems very similar to what I am experiencing. I am glad I asked before assuming it was just the sensor. Can you remember roughly how much the complete repair cost in your case? And has everything worked properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical sensor issues?

Just wanted to update on the repair cost question. After seeing the mechanic, my initial wiring issue was actually much simpler than expected. The hall sensor fault was traced to a loose cable connection near the power tailgate assembly, not a complete harness replacement as initially thought. The total came to 95 Euro for fixing the faulty sensor wiring connection. Much more reasonable than anticipated, especially compared to replacing the entire wiring harness or tailgate motor. The sensor calibration has held perfectly since the repair. The power tailgate now opens and closes smoothly with no error codes or stops. No other electrical issues have appeared in the months following the fix. Looking back, having a proper diagnostic check was key to identifying the real problem rather than just replacing parts. The vehicle sensor system is actually quite robust when properly maintained, it was just that one connection causing all the trouble.

Great news about your repair being a simple fix. I took my car to the shop yesterday following your advice about getting a proper diagnostic check rather than assuming it needed a new sensor. Turns out my automatic tailgate problem was also just a damaged wire connection where the harness flexes. The electrical sensor readings were inconsistent due to this loose connection. The mechanic found it quickly with their diagnostic equipment. Total repair came to 120 Euro including the diagnostic fee and fixing the connection. Way better than the 800 Euro quote I got elsewhere for a full tailgate motor replacement. The tailgate works perfectly now, smooth operation with no error codes. Really glad I asked here first instead of going with the expensive repair. Would have spent way more than needed if I had just assumed it was a faulty sensor like last time.

I had this exact problem on my 2016 Audi A6 Hybrid. The initial symptoms matched, tailgate stopping midway and error codes appearing. After proper diagnosis, the issue was not the tailgate sensor as suspected, but rather faulty sensor wiring causing intermittent signal interruption to the tailgate motor. The automatic tailgate system requires precise sensor calibration and proper communication between multiple components. In my case, the wiring harness had worn through at a flex point, causing inconsistent signals. The repair involved replacing the complete wiring harness assembly between the body and tailgate. This is typically a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment to properly calibrate the open tailgate position sensors after the fix. Attempting DIY repairs often leads to more complications since the system needs proper initialization after any work. The repair shop needed to: Test all tailgate motor functions, Replace the damaged wiring harness, Recalibrate position sensors, Verify proper communication between components, Test full range of motion multiple times While less common than simple sensor failures, wiring issues often get overlooked during initial diagnosis. Having the complete system checked by a qualified technician is essential for an accurate fix.
