Last service was done at 103000km and included a full inspection of the turbo system. The diagnostic scan showed error code P0234 which points to over-boost conditions. The whistling noise definitely changes with RPM and gets louder under load, suggesting a potential air intake or turbocharger issue. The engine light started flickering again yesterday while accelerating on the highway. Power delivery became very inconsistent and the turbo boost seemed to cut in and out out of nowhere. Will get it checked by a specialist who can properly diagnose if its the sensor or potentially a more serious turbocharger problem. Not taking any chances given these symptoms became worse recently.

Thanks for the thorough input regarding the turbocharger system problems. The error code P0234 combined with your previous experience definitely helps understand what might be going on. I agree this seems more serious than just a sensor issue, especially since the symptoms are getting progressively worse. I noticed some blue smoke from the exhaust this morning which wasnt present before. This combined with the inconsistent power delivery and that distinct whistling noise from the air intake has me worried about potential turbocharger failure. Booked an appointment with a specialist workshop for tomorrow morning to get a proper diagnosis. The check engine light now stays on permanently rather than flickering, and the boost pressure drops completely during acceleration. Not risking any further damage, will have it towed to the workshop rather than driving it there. Having the service records showing regular maintenance of the turbo system should help rule out maintenance-related failures at least. Will update once I get the diagnosis results and repair quote. Hoping its not a complete turbocharger replacement, but the symptoms seem to point that way unfortunately.

Similar symptoms occurred on my A6 3.0 TDI (2 years older than yours), the check engine light triggered and the turbo system began acting up in exactly the same way. Had some experience with diesel engines before, which helped identify the issue. The air intake pressure sensor was indeed the culprit. After inspection, the workshop found a loose connection at the boost pressure sensor plug. The cable harness had slight damage causing intermittent contact issues. They repaired the wiring and properly secured the connection which cost 95 Euro including diagnostic time. This is a known weak point in the turbocharger system. The symptoms match perfectly, power loss, whistling noise, and erratic engine behavior are typical signs of boost pressure sensor issues. The increased fuel consumption happens because the engine management system defaults to a safe mode when it cant read proper boost values.
