Audi A8 Cruise Control Fails After Brake Light Service

Thanks for sharing your experience with the A7. My A8 showed the same symptoms and the fix was similar, damaged wiring near the brake pedal. The dashboard light kept coming on until they traced it to a speed sensor issue. The steering wheel controls were completely dead too. Did you remember roughly how much the repair cost? Just wondering if I got overcharged. Also curious if your cruise control has worked perfectly since the fix or if other electrical gremlins showed up?

Great to confirm your A8 had similar issues. After getting mine fixed at a different shop, the cruise control has worked flawlessly with no electrical problems whatsoever. The repair bill came to 95 Euro, which covered fixing a faulty cable connection near the throttle position sensor and speed sensor assembly. The price seems reasonable considering they had to trace the whole circuit through the fuse box and test multiple connections. Having a properly working cruise control system is worth every cent, especially since these problems can cascade into other electrical issues if left unfixed. What matters most is that your cruise control is now operating correctly. These wiring issues near brake components are more common than people think, particularly after routine maintenance work.

Thanks for the input. Took my A8 to a different certified shop and glad I did. The mechanic found the speed sensor wiring was pinched during the previous brake light repair. The dashboard light kept flashing until they traced the issue. Total bill came to 120 Euro for diagnostics and repair. They also discovered and fixed a loose throttle position connection while checking the system. The clock spring thankfully was fine and didnt need replacement. Been driving for two weeks now and cruise control works perfectly. No more error codes or electrical issues. Lesson learned about being careful who works on these complex systems. The new shop took time to show me exactly what was wrong and how they fixed it.

Last month dealt with a similar issue on my 2018 Audi A7 Hybrid. The cruise control failure turned out to be a loose connection between the brake pedal switch and its wiring harness. The problem emerged after routine brake light maintenance. The main culprits were: 1. Damaged speed sensor wiring near the brake pedal assembly 2. Disconnected plug connection at the steering wheel module 3. Worn clock spring causing intermittent signal loss The fix required: Complete inspection of all brake light switch connections, Testing the speed sensor circuit, Verifying steering wheel control module connections, Checking fuse box for any blown fuse related to cruise system This was a serious electrical issue that could have affected other safety systems if left unaddressed. The root cause was improper reassembly after the brake work. Recommend taking it to a different certified shop. Have them specifically check the wiring connections between the brake pedal switch assembly and cruise control module. The error code should point them in the right direction for diagnostic work.
