Audi A8 Power Seat Failure: Fix and Cost Guide

My power seats stopped working in my 2012 A8 (3.0L gas, 108k km). The computer shows a seat error code and none of the electric seat adjustments respond. Had a bad experience with my local shop last time and looking for advice before taking it in again. Has anyone dealt with passenger seat electrical issues in these cars? What was the fix and repair cost in your case?

Had the same power seats failure in my 2015 A7 3.0 TFSI last winter. The seat adjustment system completely died, showing similar error codes. Root cause was a damaged wiring harness under the seat, where the cables flex during seat movement. Years of adjusting the seat position had caused wire insulation wear, leading to shorts in the system. The car protection system detected this and disabled the seat controls to prevent further damage. Main repair involved: Full seat harness replacement, Reset of seat control module, System diagnostics to clear fault codes, Testing all seat adjustment functions Important note: The seat harness replacement requires removing the entire seat assembly. This is not a quick fix and needs proper diagnostic equipment to ensure all safety systems (like airbag sensors) are correctly reconnected. The passenger seat electrical system is quite complex, integrating heating, position memory, and safety components. While my issue was the wiring harness, similar symptoms can also stem from a faulty control module or blown fuses. Having this properly diagnosed is crucial since seat systems are tied to safety features. This was a serious repair requiring specialized knowledge of the electrical system. Make sure to find a shop familiar with luxury vehicle seat systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the A7 seat wiring issue. The harness replacement solution matches what I suspected was wrong with my A8 passenger seat. Really helpful to know about the full seat removal being needed. Would you mind sharing what the repair ended up costing? Just trying to budget properly. Also curious if youve had any other seat adjustment problems since getting it fixed? Just scheduled an appointment with a certified shop that specializes in car seats and electrical systems, hoping they can sort it out properly this time.

Glad my previous reply helped with your A8 seat issue. After getting it fixed at the shop, the power seats have worked flawlessly for over a year now. They found the battery was severely discharged, which was causing the automotive seat system to malfunction. The total repair came to 290 Euro, which covered the battery service and electrical system testing. Much simpler fix than the seat harness replacement I initially thought it might need. The seat motor and all adjustment functions are now working perfectly. The certified shop did a thorough job testing the entire electric seat system to ensure no other components were affected by the battery issue. Having a specialist diagnose these electrical problems really makes a difference, they know exactly what to look for in the seat control systems. Good decision going with a shop that specializes in car seats and electrical work. These luxury vehicle seat systems are complex, and proper diagnosis saves money in the long run.

Thanks everyone for the help. Just got back from the certified shop and wanted to share how it turned out. They found two problems with my passenger seat electrical system, a broken seat harness and a faulty control module. The electric seat wiring was completely shot where it flexes under the seat. Total repair cost was 780 Euro which included: New seat wiring harness, Control module replacement, Labor for full seat removal and reinstallation, System programming and testing More expensive than I hoped but the shop did great work. All power seat functions are working perfectly now and no more error codes. The entire job took about 5 hours since they had to remove the complete seat assembly to access the damaged parts. Much better experience this time using a shop that actually knows electric seat systems. Worth paying more for proper diagnosis and repair rather than trying quick fixes that dont last.
