Audi A8 Washer Jets Dead: Quick Checks Before Repairs
Summary of the thread
The Audi A8's washer jets and headlight cleaning system stopped functioning, despite a full washer fluid reservoir. Possible causes include a clogged washer fluid system, faulty relay connections, or corroded electrical connections to the washer pump. Suggested solutions involve checking for pump noise, inspecting for leaks, examining the fuse box for a blown fuse, and inspecting hose connections. Repairs may involve cleaning the system, replacing clogged lines, or fixing electrical connections, with costs varying based on the specific issues identified.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Im having the exact same symptoms on my 2016 A8. I checked everything you mentioned but still no luck finding the source of the problem. The washer fluid system seems completely dead with no pump noise at all. Would you mind sharing how much the repair ended up costing? Also curious if youve had any leak issues or other problems since getting it fixed? Planning to take mine in next week but want to have a rough idea what to expect.

Just got back from having this exact fault fixed on my A8. The headlight cleaning system and washer fluid are working perfectly now. Turned out the problem was simpler than expected, just a damaged cable connection to the pump and a faulty relay. The repair cost came to 165 Euro, which included testing and fixing the electrical connections. Much better than having to replace the entire pump unit. No leaks or other issues since the fix, everything working like new. The mechanic mentioned these electrical connection problems are fairly common in our model. The pump itself was fine, but the wiring had deteriorated over time. If your symptoms match mine, no pump noise and complete system failure, its likely the same fault. The Xenon headlight cleaning system needs proper pump pressure to work, so when the electrical connection fails, the whole system shuts down. Getting it fixed sooner rather than later is smart to avoid any potential issues with the washer fluid system freezing up during cold weather.

Thanks for the responses. I took my A8 to a mechanic yesterday and got it fixed. Turns out the main issue was a faulty washer pump combined with some corroded wiring. The washer fluid system had completely failed because of this. The repair took about 2 hours. They had to replace the pump and fix some wiring connected to the headlight cleaning system. Total cost was 320 Euro for parts and labor. More than I expected but at least everything works perfectly now. The mechanic showed me the old pump which was pretty worn out. The Xenon headlight washer jets are spraying properly again and the windshield washers have strong pressure. Good thing I got it fixed before winter. No more malfunction warnings on the dash either. Would definitely recommend getting this type of fault checked out quickly. Driving without working washers was getting risky, especially at night.

Had a similar issue on my Audi A6 2019. The malfunction turned out to be both a clog in the washer fluid system and a faulty relay connection. When the pump stopped working, both the windshield washers and headlight cleaning systems failed simultaneously. A professional inspection revealed dirt particles had accumulated in the fluid lines, creating a serious blockage. Additionally, the electrical connections to the washer pump had corroded, preventing proper function. The repair required cleaning the entire system, replacing the clogged lines, and installing a new pump relay. Before taking it to a shop, check these: Listen for pump noise when activating washers, Look for any obvious leak under the washer fluid reservoir, Check fuse box for blown washer pump fuse, Inspect visible hose connections for disconnection Even though multiple components needed replacement in my case, this type of issue typically isnt catastrophic for the vehicle. A qualified technician should be able to diagnose and repair it within a standard service appointment.
