Audi Q2 Bluetooth Pairing Issues & Error Code Fix
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around Bluetooth pairing issues in a 2017 Audi Q2, with a stored error code in the transmission control unit. The problem is suspected to be due to system-wide communication issues rather than a simple Bluetooth malfunction. A similar issue in an Audi Q3 was resolved through a complete system reset and software update, which cleared both connectivity and unrelated error codes. The recommended solution is to book a workshop appointment for a full system diagnostic and update to recalibrate communication between control modules.

Thanks for the reply. For additional context, latest service was at 90000 KM and current mileage is 93192 KM. Using the latest iPhone model which previously worked fine with the system. The issue started suddenly without any phone or system updates. When attempting to pair, the system just doesnt detect the phone at all. No warning messages show up during pairing attempts. Already tried resetting both phone and car Bluetooth settings multiple times. The stored error code is showing in the transmission control unit which seems unrelated to the connectivity problem, but maybe theres a link between the systems Im not seeing. Did your software update also clear any stored error codes in other control units? Would be helpful to know before booking a workshop appointment.

The software update actually did resolve more than just the connectivity issues in my Q3. The transmission control unit error you mentioned caught my attention because I had a similar error code stored. The workshop explained that modern vehicle electronics are highly integrated, and a malfunction in one system can trigger fault codes in seemingly unrelated control units. After the complete system reset and software update, both the connectivity issue and the transmission error code cleared up. The technician mentioned this is fairly common in newer Audi models where the CAN bus system interconnects multiple control modules. My experience indicates theres likely a communication issue between control units rather than an actual transmission problem. The stored error code is probably a symptom rather than the root cause. The software update recalibrates communication between various modules, which explains why it resolved multiple issues simultaneously. A workshop visit for diagnostics would be worthwhile since they can perform a targeted update of the affected control modules. They should check both the infotainment system and transmission control unit during the diagnostic process to ensure all systems are properly synchronized. The fact that your phone previously worked fine, combined with the transmission error code, strongly suggests a system-wide communication issue rather than a simple Bluetooth malfunction.

Thanks everyone for the detailed feedback. This has been really helpful in understanding the bigger picture. I didnt initially consider the connection between the transmission control unit and connectivity issues, but it makes sense given how integrated these systems are. Based on the responses, Ill book an appointment for a full system diagnostic and update. The symptoms match exactly what others experienced, especially the sudden connectivity loss without any system changes and the stored error codes appearing in seemingly unrelated systems. Will update the thread once I get it checked out at the workshop. Good to know the fix might be as straightforward as a software update to resolve both the engine light and connectivity problems. Hoping for a similar quick resolution and reasonable cost like the 45 Euro diagnostic fee mentioned earlier. At least the drivetrain and basic vehicle functions are working normally, so I can still use the car while waiting for the appointment. Really appreciate all the input on tracking down these electrical gremlins.

Had the exact same issue with my 2019 Audi Q3. As someone with some experience working on car electronics, I first tried the basic troubleshooting like clearing the Bluetooth cache and resetting the infotainment system, but nothing worked. The electrical faults turned out to be related to a software desync between the car system and mobile devices. Took it to a workshop where they performed a complete system reset and software update on the multimedia interface. Total cost was 45 Euro for the diagnostic and update procedure. The issue was resolved in about an hour. Before suggesting specific fixes, could you share: Which phone model you are trying to pair, Whether this happened after a phone or car system update, If any warning messages appear during pairing attempts These details would help identify if your issue matches what I experienced. The malfunction might be similar, but Audi models can have different system versions that require specific fixes.
