Audi Q2 Door Lock Failure After Electrical Service

My Audi Q2 2017 (180k km) has completely stopped responding to automatic locks. No reaction when using key fob or central locking. Started right after my last garage visit where they did some electrical work. Could this be related to a faulty door contact signal? Has anyone experienced similar issues with their Q2? Would like to avoid going back to the same mechanic if possible.

Summary of the thread

After an electrical service, an Audi Q2 experienced a complete failure of the automatic door locks, with no response from the key fob or central locking. The issue was suspected to be related to a faulty door contact signal. A similar problem in an Audi Q5 was traced to a damaged wiring harness affecting the door latch mechanism, caused by previous electrical work. The solution involved inspecting and repairing the wiring connections, specifically addressing any pinched wires, which resolved the issue and restored full functionality to the automatic locks and related systems.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Had the same problem with an Audi Q5 2020. The issue turned out to be a damaged wiring harness that connects the door latch mechanism to the central locking system. The problem appeared after routine electrical work. The automatic locks stopped responding completely, both from the key fob and internal switches. A diagnostic scan revealed the door switch was sending incorrect signals to the control unit. The repair required removing the door panel and replacing a section of the wiring harness where it had been pinched during previous work. The car alarm system was also affected since it shares the same electrical circuit. This is typically a serious issue that requires professional diagnosis and repair since it involves the security system. The damaged wiring can affect multiple door components and potentially drain the battery if left unfixed. Based on your description, it sounds like the door latch wiring may have been accidentally damaged during the electrical work. Would recommend having another shop inspect the wiring connections and door switch functionality specifically.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Q5. Im currently dealing with an identical issue with my Q2, also after routine electrical work where the automatic locks completely stopped working. I took your advice and had a different mechanic look at it. They also found a pinched wire in the door latch assembly that was causing the door sensor to malfunction. Curious how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also wondering if youve had any recurring issues with the door sensors or car alarm system since getting it fixed?

Just wanted to follow up on the repair costs discussion. After my vehicle doors issue was diagnosed, fixing the faulty door contact signal cost 95 Euro. The repair involved correcting a damaged cable connection that was affecting both the automatic locks and car alarm system. The good news is that since having the mechanic fix the pinched wire, everything has worked flawlessly. No recurring problems with the door switch or any other door-related electrical components. The automatic locks respond perfectly now, both from the key fob and interior controls. My situation mirrors yours exactly, routine electrical work led to the problem, but once the proper repair was done, it resolved all the issues completely. Its been over a year now without any similar electrical problems cropping up.

Finally went to get it checked out at a different shop based on your feedback. The mechanic found exactly what you described, a pinched wiring harness near the door latch mechanism. Total repair came to 120 Euro, which included diagnosing the electrical issue and replacing the damaged section of wire. The automatic locks now work perfectly again with both the key fob and internal switches. Really glad I followed your advice to have another shop look at it rather than going back to the original mechanic who likely caused the problem during their electrical work. Definitely learned my lesson about being more careful about who works on the vehicle doors and electrical systems. Will be keeping this new mechanic for future repairs since they properly diagnosed and fixed the door switch issue the first time.
