Audi Q2 IAT Sensor Woes Impact Engine Performance

My Audi Q2 2020 (156941 km, gas engine) seems to have issues with the IAT sensor. The engine feels sluggish, runs rough and the check engine light keeps showing up. Had some unpleasant experience with my regular mechanic lately, so looking for advice from others who dealt with intake air temperature sensor problems. Anyone got their IAT sensor replaced and can share how much it cost and what to watch out for during repairs? Would appreciate feedback on reliable repair options.

Last month I had similar engine issues with my Audi A3 2017. The intake air temperature sensor was indeed faulty, causing rough idling and poor acceleration. The air sensor malfunction triggered persistent check engine lights. The repair process was straightforward but required specific diagnostic tools to properly test the temperature sensor readings. The main signs that confirmed the failing IAT sensor included: Inconsistent idle, Poor fuel economy, Engine running rich, Difficulty starting in cold weather The car sensor replacement itself took under an hour. The most critical part was ensuring proper connection and calibration after installation. While not a major repair, ignoring faulty IAT readings can lead to engine performance issues and increased fuel consumption over time. Make sure the mechanic checks the wiring harness and connector pins during replacement, as these can sometimes be the root cause rather than the sensor itself. A proper diagnostic scan before and after repair helps confirm the fix addressed all related engine issues. The repair resolved all symptoms, though it took about 100km of driving for the engine management system to fully adapt to the new air sensor readings.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the sensor replacement. Really helpful to know what symptoms to watch for with the IAT sensor issues. Just curious, can you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the car diagnostics and repair? Also wondering if youve noticed any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? My intake air readings are still showing some inconsistency so trying to gauge if theres possibly something else going on with the engine management system.

Good news to report, after getting the faulty intake air temperature sensor replaced, my Audi A3 has been running perfectly. The total cost came to 155 Euro, which covered both the diagnostic testing and the sensor replacement work. The temperature reading issues completely cleared up once the new sensor was properly calibrated. The diagnostic tool confirmed that the inconsistent air temperature measurements were solely due to the defective sensor. Since the repair, all engine parameters have remained stable and the check engine light hasnt returned. The sluggish performance and rough running completely disappeared after the fix. If youre still seeing inconsistent intake air readings, id recommend having the wiring connections double-checked, as even a properly functioning temperature sensor can show erratic readings if the electrical connections arent secure. The engine management system should adapt fairly quickly once all components are working correctly.

I really appreciate everyones input. After reading the responses, I decided to try a different mechanic who specializes in engine diagnostics. Took my Q2 in last week and they confirmed the IAT sensor was definitely the culprit. The car diagnostics showed irregular intake air temperature readings that were throwing off the entire fuel mixture. The total repair came to 180 Euro including parts and labor. They also cleaned the surrounding air intake components while doing the work. The entire job took about 2 hours since they did thorough testing before and after the sensor replacement. Happy to report the engine is running smoothly now with no more check engine lights. The sluggish performance is completely gone and the temperature readings are stable. Really glad I got a second opinion and found a mechanic who properly diagnosed the issue. The whole experience taught me not to ignore engine issues, even if they seem minor at first.
