Thanks for sharing your experience with the Audi Q3 key programming issue. I am dealing with something similar on my Audi Q2 right now and noticed my auto key showing the same symptoms last week. The keyless entry is acting up intermittently. Did you remember approximately how much the service center charged for the key fob reprogramming? Also curious if you have experienced any other electronic quirks since getting it fixed? This seems like a common issue with these key systems and I want to make sure I budget correctly before heading to the shop.

After visiting the service center for my Q3 key issues, I can report the problem was fully resolved. The key battery replacement and reprogramming cost 37 Euro total, which was reasonable considering the specialized equipment needed. The car key is working perfectly now with no more battery warning messages on the dashboard. The keyless access system functions normally again, just like when the car was new. Have not experienced any other electronic issues since the repair. The technician mentioned these key battery problems are fairly routine, they recommended replacing the fob battery every 2 years as preventive maintenance, before getting the low battery warnings. This helps avoid the need for reprogramming if the battery dies completely. For anyone else seeing intermittent key fob issues, addressing the battery replacement early can save both hassle and money. The full programming service might not be needed if you catch the low battery warning in time.

Thank you all for the advice. I went ahead and took my Q2 to an authorized service center yesterday. The whole process was much smoother than expected. Like many suggested, they first checked the key battery which was indeed completely dead. But since I had waited too long, they also needed to reprogram the auto key fob. The total bill came to 42 Euro which seemed fair considering the specialized work involved. The keyless access is now working perfectly again and all error messages have disappeared from the dash. The technician showed me how to check for early warning signs of a low battery in the key fob, which should help prevent this issue in the future. Really glad I asked here first instead of going back to my regular mechanic who probably would have charged more without having the right diagnostic equipment. Will definitely keep an eye on those key battery warnings from now on.

Had the same issue on my 2019 Audi Q3 last month. The electronic key started acting up with similar symptoms, keyless entry stopped working and dashboard showed the key battery warning. Initially thought it was just a low voltage fob battery, but replacing it didnt solve the problem. The car key needed reprogramming at an authorized service center because the key had lost sync with the vehicle. This can happen when the battery gets completely drained rather than changed preventively. The repair was straightforward but required specialized diagnostic equipment. My suggestion would be to first try replacing the battery yourself, use a CR2032 battery and follow the manual instructions carefully. If that doesnt resolve it, you will need professional programming. This is not a serious mechanical issue, just an electronic inconvenience. The backup method of unlocking the car by holding the physical key part against the door pillar should still work even with a dead fob battery. The car will also start normally once inside by pressing the key fob directly against the marked spot on the steering column. The main lesson learned was to act quickly when first seeing the key battery warning rather than waiting until the fob stops working completely.
