Audi Q2 Misfire: Multiple Engine Components Under Probe
Summary of the thread
The 2022 Audi Q2 experienced engine misfiring, rough idling, and reduced power, with a persistent check engine light. The diagnostic scan indicated a cylinder misfire, leading to speculation about potential causes such as spark plugs, ignition coils, or fuel injectors. Upon further investigation, the issue was traced to worn spark plugs and a faulty ignition coil on cylinder 3, which were replaced to resolve the problem. The workshop also recommended using premium fuel and avoiding low fuel levels to prevent carbon buildup and similar issues in the future.

Just completed my latest service at 35157 KM. After investigating my issue with the workshop, the root cause was actually a combination of worn spark plugs and one faulty ignition coil on cylinder 3. The throttle response is now back to normal after replacing these parts. The rough idle and engine misfiring completely disappeared after the fix. Total repair cost was 380 Euro including parts and labor. They also checked the fuel injectors during diagnosis but those were working properly. Worth noting they found carbon buildup starting to form, so they recommended using higher quality fuel and not letting the tank run too low to prevent similar issues in the future.

Thanks for the update on your Q2. Had a nearly identical situation with my Audi last year. The rough idle and engine misfiring symptoms matched exactly what I experienced, and it also turned out to be ignition coil failure, though mine was on cylinder 1. The check engine light episodes and poor throttle response were definitely frustrating, but the fix has been totally reliable since the repair. My total came to about 420 Euro since I needed all new spark plugs along with the ignition coil. Completely agree about the fuel quality recommendation. Since switching to premium fuel, engine performance has stayed consistent with no misfiring issues. The carbon buildup concern is real with these direct injection engines. Running the tank too low can definitely contribute to problems, as sediment tends to collect at the bottom. Good to hear your engine is running smoothly again. These symptoms can be quite alarming when they first appear, but at least it was a relatively straightforward fix in both our cases.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Just to close this thread with my final experience and hopefully help others with similar issues, the root problem with my Q2 was definitely the combination of worn spark plugs and a faulty ignition coil on cylinder 3. After replacing these components, the engine misfiring and rough idle issues completely disappeared. The check engine light is now off and throttle response is back to factory spec. Total repair cost came to 380 Euro including parts and labor. The workshop did a thorough check of the fuel injectors during diagnosis but found them working properly. They noted some carbon buildup starting to form though, so their advice was to stick with premium fuel and avoid running the tank too low to prevent similar problems developing. Worth mentioning that this fix completely resolved the cylinder misfire codes that were showing up in the initial diagnostic scan. If anyone else experiences these symptoms, definitely get the ignition components checked first before assuming more serious issues.

I had a very similar issue with my 2020 Audi Q3 last year. I have some experience working on cars, but this particular problem required professional diagnosis. The symptoms were nearly identical, rough idle, cylinder misfire codes, and the check engine light was constantly illuminated. The engine would also jerk noticeably during acceleration, especially when cold. After taking it to my regular workshop, they diagnosed a faulty fuel injector in cylinder 2. The diagnostic showed irregular fuel spray patterns causing incomplete combustion. The repair involved: Complete fuel injector testing, Replacement of the defective injector, System cleaning and calibration, Final testing to ensure proper fuel delivery Total cost was 515 Euro for parts and labor. Since the repair, the engine has run smoothly with no misfires or check engine light issues. Before jumping to conclusions about your Q2, it would help to know: How many kilometers/miles are on the engine? Did the problem start suddenly or develop gradually? Have you noticed any unusual fuel consumption? Are you using the recommended fuel grade? Have you had any recent maintenance work done? This information would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced with the fuel injector or if it might be related to ignition coils or other components.
