Audi Q2 Radiator Fan Failure Causing Engine Overheat

Looking for help with my 2022 Audi Q2 thats showing overheating issues. The car radiator fan seems to be acting up, engine temperature keeps climbing and check engine light is now on. The temperature control system worked fine until recently. Anyone had similar issues with their engine cooling system? Wondering if its definitely a defective radiator fan or something else. Would appreciate hearing about repair experiences and costs involved, especially from those who had similar symptoms fixed at a workshop.

Summary of the thread

The 2022 Audi Q2 experienced engine overheating due to a malfunctioning radiator fan. The core problem was identified as a failing thermal switch and speed sensor, causing the fan to run constantly and the engine temperature to rise. The suggested solution involved replacing these components, which resolved the cooling issues and cleared the check engine light. The repair included a complete cooling system inspection and flush, restoring normal engine temperature control and preventing potential engine damage.

Had the exact same issue with my 2020 Audi Q3. Initially noticed the engine cooling system acting up when the temperature gauge started climbing unusually high. After some worrying fan noise, I took it to a workshop. Turned out the speed sensor was defective, which caused the fan motor to malfunction. This affected the whole engine cooling process. The repair bill came to 250 Euro, including parts and labor. Since the fix, the car radiator and fan blade assembly have been working perfectly. No more temperature spikes or warning lights. With some experience working on Audis, I would suggest getting this checked quickly as overheating can lead to more serious engine damage. The symptoms you describe sound very similar to what I experienced. Could you share: Current mileage, When you first noticed the fan noise, Whether the fan motor is running constantly or not at all, Any unusual sounds from the engine bay, If the issue occurs more during city driving or highway speeds This information would help narrow down if youre facing the same problem I had with the speed sensor.

Mileage is 126931KM on my car, purchased during a special offer in Q2 2022. First noticed the radiator fan noise about 2 weeks ago. The fan motor seems to run constantly, even after parking. Definitely worse during city driving when theres less airflow through the cooling system. No unusual sounds from the engine bay besides the fan. Temperature control issues started showing up right after the constant fan running began. Thanks for sharing your experience, the symptoms do sound similar. Will get it checked this week since I dont want to risk engine damage from poor cooling. Hope its just the speed sensor like in your case.

Thanks for the additional details. Those symptoms match exactly what I experienced with my Q3 before the repair. The constant radiator fan operation, especially after parking, is a classic sign of the speed sensor malfunction. The car cooling system should adjust the fan speed based on engine temperature, but with a faulty sensor, it defaults to running continuously as a safety measure. Your mileage is close to when these issues typically start showing up in these models. My repair experience suggests you should also have them check: The coolant level and quality, Thermostat operation, Any potential blockages in the cooling system The total repair cost might be slightly higher than what I paid (250 Euro) since parts prices have increased, but its still a straightforward fix. The workshop needed about 3 hours to complete the work on my car. The good news is that once the speed sensor was replaced, the engine cooling returned to normal and the check engine light cleared. No overheating issues since then, even in stop-and-go traffic.

Thanks everyone for the detailed advice. Just got back from the workshop and wanted to close this thread with an update. The thermal switch and speed sensor were both failing, causing the car radiator fan to run constantly. Total repair cost was 320 Euro including parts and labor. They also did a complete cooling system inspection and flush while they had it apart. The engine cooling is now working perfectly, no more constant fan running or temperature control issues. The check engine light cleared right after the repair and temps are staying normal even in city traffic. Really glad I got this fixed quickly before any serious engine damage could occur from overheating. For anyone searching with similar symptoms, definitely dont wait to get it checked. The constant fan operation and climbing temperatures were clear warning signs that the cooling system needed attention. Much cheaper to fix the thermal switch and speed sensor than risk major engine repairs from running too hot.
