Audi Q2 Trans Warning: Rough Shifts & Grinding Alert

My 2017 Audi Q2 gasoline has been giving me transmission troubles lately. The check engine and transmission lights are on, and the gearbox is shifting roughly with grinding sounds. The error code points to an automatic transmission issue, possibly a converter fault or lock-up clutch problem. The car has 127905 KM on it. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Looking for advice before heading back to a mechanic, as my last repair experience wasnt great. What should I expect in terms of repair costs and time?

Had similar transmission issues with a 2014 Audi A3 2.0 TFSI. The symptoms match exactly what you describe, rough shifting, grinding noises, and warning lights indicating a transmission fault. The diagnosis revealed a defective torque converter and lock-up clutch assembly. This is a serious automatic gearbox issue that requires complete transmission removal. The lock-up clutch was failing to engage properly, causing the grinding sounds during gear changes. The repair involved: Removing entire transmission, Replacing torque converter, Installing new lock-up clutch assembly, Flushing transmission fluid, Reprogramming transmission control module Total repair time was 4 days at the shop. This is not a quick fix as the transmission repair requires specialized tools and expertise. The converter failure can cause metal particles to circulate through the system, potentially causing more damage if not addressed. Would strongly recommend having this checked immediately, as continuing to drive with these symptoms can lead to complete transmission failure. Make sure to choose a shop with specific experience in Audi automatic transmission repairs.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the transmission repair. My Audi Q2 ended up having similar automatic transmission issues last year. The converter fault and lock-up clutch problems sound identical to what I dealt with. Did you remember approximately how much the complete transmission repair cost? Also curious if youve had any transmission related problems since the fix was done. Always good to know what to expect long term with these repairs.

Good to hear back about your Q2. After getting the automatic transmission torque converter lock-up clutch defective condition fixed on my A3, I havent experienced any transmission issues whatsoever. The repair has held up perfectly for over 18 months now. The total cost came to 2120 Euro for the complete transmission repair, including parts and labor. This covered everything from the torque converter replacement to the transmission fluid flush and control module programming. While expensive, the investment was worth it since the engine surge and rough shifting completely disappeared. A quality transmission repair like this should last many years when done properly. The key is catching these converter issues early before they cause more extensive automatic gearbox damage. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to warning signs help prevent bigger problems down the road. Based on my experience, I think youll be satisfied with the durability of the repair as long as it was done by a qualified transmission specialist.

I finally took my Q2 to a certified transmission specialist last week. The diagnosis confirmed what everyone suggested, a faulty torque converter and lock-up clutch assembly in the automatic transmission. The repair took 5 days in total, but the results were worth the wait. The complete job cost me 2350 Euro, which included: New torque converter, Lock-up clutch replacement, Fresh transmission fluid, Control module update, Labor costs The grinding noise is completely gone now and the transmission shifts smoothly again. The converter fault codes have cleared and all warning lights are off. The specialist explained that catching it early prevented more severe damage to the automatic transmission. Much better experience than my previous mechanic who couldnt properly diagnose the issue. If anyone else faces similar symptoms, definitely worth going straight to a transmission expert rather than a general repair shop.
