Audi Q3 Door Lock System Complete Failure Fix Guide

Looking for help with my 2016 Q3 where the door locks stopped working completely. The doors wont lock or unlock using either the key fob or interior controls. My mechanic mentioned it could be related to a faulty door contact signal but wasnt certain. Has anyone dealt with this electrical issue before? Specifically interested in knowing if it was the door switch, wiring harness or something else entirely. Would appreciate hearing about repair costs and what exactly needed fixing in your cases.

I had almost the exact same issue with my 2014 Q5, so I know how frustrating automatic locks problems can be. Have moderate experience with electrical issues in these models. The symptoms were identical, complete failure of both remote and interior door controls. After diagnosis, it turned out the wiring harness connecting to the door latch mechanism was damaged, with a few pinched wires causing intermittent contact issues. The vehicle doors would sometimes recognize the lock signal, but mostly remained unresponsive. The repair involved replacing a section of the door wiring harness and checking all door switch connections. Total cost was 95 Euro for parts and labor. The workshop completed the repair in about 2 hours. To help troubleshoot your specific case, could you share: Are you hearing any clicking sounds when pressing lock/unlock? Does the problem affect all doors or just specific ones? Have you noticed any other electrical issues recently? Did this start suddenly or gradually get worse? The door latch mechanisms in these models are pretty similar, but knowing these details would help narrow down if you are facing the same issue I had.

Last service was done at 81296 KM and they replaced the oil, filters and rotated the tires. Thanks for the detailed reply. Yes, I hear clicking sounds from the front passenger door when using the key fob or buttons, but no response from other doors. The car alarm also started acting up recently, triggering out of nowhere about twice last week. The problems emerged gradually over a month. Looking at your repair costs, that seems reasonable if it is indeed the same wiring harness issue. My initial concern was it might be the entire door latch assembly which I heard could cost significantly more.

Thanks for those extra details. Based on the clicking sound from just one door and the unusual alarm triggers, this definitely matches the failure pattern I experienced. The car sensor system gets confused when receiving partial signals from faulty wiring. In my case, the alarm issues started about 2 weeks after the first door lock problems. The wiring harness damage was actually causing incorrect contact signals, making the system think the door was being tampered with. Important point: If you let this go too long, there is risk of the damaged wiring harness causing issues with other electrical components in the door. My repair cost stayed at 95 Euro because we caught it before it affected the window controls or side mirror electronics. The fact that your other doors remain completely silent while the passenger door clicks suggests the wiring damage is likely isolated to the main harness junction rather than individual door latch assemblies. This is actually good news, as replacing multiple door latches would indeed cost significantly more. Would definitely recommend getting this checked soon, especially with those alarm triggers. The repair process should be very similar to what I went through since these models share almost identical door wiring layouts.

Thanks everyone for the help. The clicking sound situation and unusual alarm behavior matching your experience gives me more confidence about the diagnosis. Going to schedule the harness repair this week before it potentially affects other door electronics. The 95 Euro repair cost is much better than I feared, especially compared to replacing multiple door latch assemblies. Will make sure to mention the gradual onset of problems and the passenger door clicking when I take it in. Really appreciate the detailed explanation of how the electrical issue progresses and the connection between the faulty door contact signal and alarm triggers. This helped confirm my mechanic was on the right track with the initial diagnosis.
