Audi Q3 HVAC Control Panel Dead, Heating/AC Failed

Looking for advice on my 2011 Q3 2.0 TFSI (158000km) with HVAC system issues. The control panel seems unresponsive, and the heating barely works. Air conditioning wont turn on at all, plus theres an error code stored. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so Im hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar temperature control issues? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Had a similar issue with my 2014 Q5 2.0 TFSI. The symptoms matched exactly, unresponsive control panel and HVAC malfunction. After inspection, the problem was traced to damaged electrical connectors behind the control panel unit and a faulty temperature sensor. The wiring harness had deteriorated where it connected to the climate control module, causing intermittent electronic faults. The repair involved replacing the complete harness assembly and sensor unit. This was not a quick fix, the entire dashboard needed partial disassembly to access the components. This is typically a serious issue that gets worse over time and can affect other electrical systems if left unrepaired. The job requires specialized diagnostic equipment to properly identify all affected components. A certified mechanic should be able to diagnose this by checking the error codes and testing the electrical connections. The repair time usually takes 4-5 hours for a complete fix. Worth noting that temporary fixes like cleaning connections rarely solve the underlying issue permanently.

I experienced the exact same problems described. The climate control and control panel issues were really frustrating, especially during weather changes. The mechanic found multiple electronic faults including a bad temperature sensor and wiring problems connected to the power supply. Thanks for sharing your detailed experience. Would you mind sharing the repair costs? Also curious if youve had any recurring issues since the fix? My car needs urgent repair and Im trying to budget accordingly while making sure I choose a shop that will do a proper job the first time.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. The climate control repair worked perfectly after visiting my mechanic, no recurring issues since then. The blower motor and control panel are both functioning as they should. The actual problem turned out to be simpler than initially feared, just a loose cable connection that was causing the electronic faults. Total cost was 95 Euro for the repair, which was much less than expected given the symptoms. The air conditioning and heating systems are now working flawlessly. No further problems have emerged in the past months, and all electronic components of the climate control system are responding correctly. The key was finding a technician who properly diagnosed the root cause instead of just replacing parts. While the dashboard did need to be partially opened, the actual fix was straightforward once they identified the faulty connection to the control panel.

Finally got my car fixed last week. After reading the responses here, I found a certified mechanic who specializes in electronic faults. The diagnostic revealed multiple issues with the wiring harness and a failing control module in the HVAC system. The repair took about 6 hours total. They had to remove parts of the dashboard to access the electrical connectors properly. Cost came to 480 Euro including parts and labor, more than your repair but still reasonable considering the extent of the problem. Air conditioning and heating both work perfectly now. The control panel responds instantly and all temperature settings are accurate. Such a relief to have proper climate control again. Really glad I decided to get it fixed properly rather than trying temporary solutions. A big thanks to everyone who shared their experiences. Having this information helped me understand the issue better and know what to expect at the repair shop.
