Audi Q3 Hybrid Coil Pack Issues Cause Rough Running

Looking for advice on what seems to be a failing coil pack in my 2021 Audi Q3 Hybrid (194567 KM). Engine runs rough and stalls at idle, plus jerking during acceleration. Check engine light is on. Last mechanic visit was pretty disappointing, so want to know if anyone has dealt with similar symptoms and how their repair experience went. Any tips on finding a reliable shop that knows their way around hybrid engine misfires? Getting worried about driving it in this condition.

Had the exact same symptoms in my 2018 Audi Q5 Hybrid last winter. The check engine light came on during highway driving, followed by rough idling and significant power loss during acceleration. Vehicle diagnostics confirmed it was indeed a coil failure, plus the plug connection had corroded due to moisture buildup around the coil housing. The repair involved replacing two ignition coils and all spark plugs as a preventive measure. This is a known issue with some Audi hybrid models when they reach higher mileage. Engine stalling at idle is a clear indicator of coil pack problems, especially when combined with jerking during acceleration. The fix requires specialized diagnostic equipment for hybrid powertrains. Most certified Audi technicians should be familiar with this issue. Getting it fixed promptly is crucial as continued driving can damage the catalytic converter. For reference, the job took about 3 hours including comprehensive testing. Look for shops that specifically advertise hybrid powertrain expertise and have proper diagnostic tools. This is a serious repair that shouldnt be postponed, but its also not catastrophic if addressed quickly. Recommend disconnecting the affected coil to prevent further issues until you can get it serviced. The symptoms you describe match classic coil pack failure indicators almost exactly.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the coil pack issue. It does sound identical to what I am experiencing with my Q3. The rough running and check engine light symptoms match perfectly. Curious, how much did you end up paying for the full repair with parts and labor? Also, have you had any ignition system problems since getting it fixed? My main concern is making sure this doesnt turn into a recurring issue that keeps draining my wallet. Your tip about finding a shop with proper vehicle diagnostics equipment makes a lot of sense.

After the repair was done by a qualified technician who properly diagnosed the engine hesitation, it cost 95 Euro to fix the faulty connection in the ignition system. The issue turned out to be a defective ignition coil with a bad cable connection, which was causing the misfire symptoms. Have not experienced any spark plug or coil failure issues since the repair six months ago. The engine runs perfectly smooth now with no stalling or rough running. The mechanic did a thorough check of the entire ignition system and confirmed the other components were in good condition. Was lucky to catch it early before it could cause damage to other engine parts. The diagnostic equipment they used pinpointed the exact problem quickly, saving time and unnecessary parts replacement. Would definitely recommend getting it fixed right away, driving with faulty ignition components can lead to bigger issues down the road.

I finally got the coil pack issue resolved last week and wanted to update everyone. Found a shop specializing in hybrid powertrains that actually knew what they were doing with proper vehicle diagnostics equipment. The mechanic found two failing ignition coils and recommended replacing all spark plugs while they were in there. Total bill came to 560 Euro including parts and labor. More than I hoped but less than I feared. The engine hesitation and rough running completely disappeared after the repair. No more check engine light or stalling issues. They showed me the old coils and you could clearly see the damage from repeated misfiring. Really glad I got this fixed when I did. The technician mentioned ignition system problems can cascade into bigger issues if left unchecked. The car runs like new now, smooth idle and strong acceleration with no jerking. For anyone facing similar symptoms, definitely get it checked by someone who knows hybrid systems. The right diagnostic tools make all the difference in pinpointing coil failure accurately.
