Audi Q3 Hybrid Fuel Sensor Causing Engine Stalls

Had my last service at 25000 KM, so quite recently. Just pulled the codes again, getting P0461 and P0462 codes consistently. The fuel gauge now fluctuates out of nowhere even when the fuel tank is full. Tried checking all fuses in the main box and they look fine visually. These symptoms started about a week ago, getting progressively worse. The car dashboard warnings are now constant rather than intermittent like before. Wondering if this definitely points to a full sensor replacement in the fuel system.

Thanks for providing those specific error codes. Based on my previous experience with the same issue on my Q4 Hybrid, those P0461/P0462 codes strongly indicate a fuel level sensor malfunction, more severe than the fuse issue I initially encountered. When my fuel level sensor completely failed later, I saw the same unusual gauge fluctuations you describe. The car sensor issues progressed similarly, starting with occasional dashboard warnings that became constant. The stalling occurred because the engine control unit receives incorrect fuel level data. In my case, replacing the entire fuel level sensor assembly was necessary. While more expensive than the initial fuse fix, it resolved all symptoms: Erratic fuel gauge readings stopped, Check engine light cleared, Engine idle stabilized, No more error codes in the system The repair cost was around 450 Euro including parts and labor. Make sure the workshop checks the wiring harness connected to the fuel tank sensor during replacement, as damaged wires can cause similar symptoms. Since your diagnostic codes specifically point to the fuel level sensor circuit and you have already checked the fuses, a sensor replacement is likely needed to fix this properly.

I appreciate the detailed follow-up about the fuel level sensor issue. Those error codes definitely align with my symptoms, and hearing about your similar gauge fluctuations makes me more confident about the diagnosis. A 450 Euro repair bill isnt great news, but its better than continuing to deal with these constant warnings and stalling problems. The progression of your symptoms matches mine exactly, from intermittent to constant dashboard warnings. Ill make sure to ask the workshop about checking the wiring harness during the fuel sensor replacement. Since the fuses all appear fine and the car electronics are showing clear sensor fault codes, this seems like the logical next step. Will book the car in next week and update once the fuel system repair is complete. Really helpful to know what to expect with the repair process and costs. At least this should resolve all the issues, the unusual gauge readings, stalling, and those persistent error codes.

As someone with some experience maintaining hybrid vehicles, I encountered a similar issue with my 2021 Audi Q4 Hybrid. The symptoms were almost identical, with dashboard warnings and engine stalling problems. Initially, I suspected a complex fuel system issue, but it turned out to be much simpler. The workshop diagnosed a blown fuse connected to the fuel level sensor circuit. The faulty sensor readings were causing the engine management system to behave erratically. The repair was straightforward, replacing the defective fuse restored proper communication between the fuel level sensor and the engine control unit. Total cost was 52 Euro, mostly labor for diagnostic time. Before jumping to conclusions about sensor replacement, could you share: Have you checked the fuse box? What specific error codes appeared in the diagnostic scan? Does the fuel gauge show erratic readings? When did these symptoms first appear? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if its something different in the fuel system. For an accurate diagnosis, having the exact error codes from the diagnostic scan would be particularly helpful.
