Audi Q5 Emergency Call System Fix & Warning Lights

My 2016 Audi Q5 recently started showing multiple warning lights and error messages in the instrument cluster. The diagnostic codes point toward an emergency call system malfunction. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Specifically interested in what repair steps your workshop took to resolve the problem and what the actual root cause was. Looking to understand if a system reset might fix it or if the control module needs replacement. Would appreciate insights on repair costs and time needed for the fix.

Having some experience working on Audi vehicles, I encountered a similar issue with my 2014 Audi Q3. The telematics system started showing multiple warning lights and the SOS signal function stopped working completely. After experiencing call failure messages, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a faulty wiring connection to the control module. The issue was not resolved with a simple system reset, they had to repair the damaged cable connection near the roof module. The total repair took about 2 hours and cost 95 Euro, which covered the diagnostic work and cable repair. The warning lights cleared immediately after the fix and the emergency call system has worked flawlessly since then. To provide more specific guidance for your Q5, could you share: Which exact warning lights are appearing? Are you getting any specific error messages? Did the issue start suddenly or develop gradually? Have you had any recent work done on the roof area or electrical systems? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different in the telematics system.

Had my car serviced last week at 13387 KM. After reading your experience, I checked my vehicle history and found a similar pattern with the automotive electronics throwing these errors. The warning lights started appearing right after a heavy rainstorm. My emergency call system shows a continuous malfunction indicator, accompanied by a red warning light. When testing the SOS signal button, there is no response at all. Getting multiple call failure notifications throughout each drive. The telematics control unit seems completely unresponsive to basic diagnostics. I will have it checked focusing specifically on the wiring connection you mentioned, hoping for a similarly straightforward fix.

Thanks for the additional details about your Q5. The timing with the rainstorm is actually quite telling, it strongly suggests water intrusion affecting the telematics components, just like I experienced with my Q3. Based on the symptoms you describe, especially the complete SOS button unresponsiveness and multiple call failure alerts, this matches almost exactly with my wiring issue. Water likely penetrated through the roof area and compromised the connections. Since your mileage is relatively low at 13387 KM, and the problem started after rain, I am even more convinced you are dealing with the same cable connection problem near the roof module that I had. The diagnostic codes from the automotive electronics system should help confirm this. A system reset did not resolve my issue because the root cause was physical damage to the wiring. However, your repair costs might differ slightly since the Q5 emergency call system layout has some variations from my Q3. Before you take it in, try to note: If the warnings get worse in wet weather, Whether the malfunction indicator is constant or intermittent, If other electrical systems are affected This will help the technicians pinpoint the exact location of the water intrusion point and damaged connections.

Thanks everyone for your input. After investigating further, I think I have enough information to move forward with the repair. The water intrusion connection makes perfect sense given the timing with the rainstorm. I will schedule an appointment and have them specifically check the wiring connections near the roof module where the control module connects to the emergency call system. The constant malfunction warnings and complete failure of the SOS button seem to match the symptoms described. While waiting for the repair, I will document if the automotive electronics issues get worse during wet weather as suggested. At least the problem seems to be isolated to just the telematics system for now, with no other electrical systems showing problems. Hopefully this will be a straightforward wiring fix like others have experienced, rather than needing a full control module replacement. Will update once I get it resolved in case others run into similar car safety system issues in the future.
