Audi Q5: Problems with engine performance, control valves and metal shavings in the oil

Metal shavings in oil

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Weird engine noise

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Valve adjustment noise

Poor fuel economy

Hey sports fans, I currently have a strange problem with my Audi Q5 (gasoline engine, built in 2010). The engine runs unevenly, the car jerks when accelerating, fuel consumption is higher, you can hear the control valves and other strange noises, and I also noticed metal shavings in the oil. My first diagnosis would be a fault in the camshaft adjustment. Has anyone had similar experiences and can tell me how their garage solved this problem? I would appreciate any tips and opinions!

Hi mate, on my Audi Q7 (petrol, built 2008), I had a similar problem. I only have a bit of experience with cars, but I'm not really an expert. In my case, the valve actuator was defective. I had to go to the garage and the whole thing cost me 405 euros. However, it can vary from car to car. Can you please give me more information about your vehicle and the symptoms? The more I know, the better I can help you!

Hey, thanks for the answer! So my Audi has 158431 kilometers on it now and the last service was about a year ago. I was particularly concerned about the metal shavings. Do you think this could be related to your problem with the valve actuator? I also noticed that the jerking occurs particularly when accelerating. How exactly did you solve your problem?

Hey, thanks for the additional info! Well, my Audi Q7 also had the jerking when accelerating. I can't tell you exactly if the metal shavings could be coming from the valve actuator. But that doesn't sound good if you ask me! At my garage, they simply replaced the valve actuator and the problem was solved. I then drove on without any jerking or other symptoms. I would recommend having your Audi checked at a specialist garage. They can tell you exactly what's wrong and then you can decide what you want to do. I hope this helps you!

Thank you, that really helps me a lot! I appreciate your advice and experience. I'm going to the garage next week and will ask about the valve actuator. Hopefully that will solve my problem. I will keep you posted on what happens. Thanks again!
