Audi Q7 Sound System Goes Completely Dead

Looking for help with total radio silence in my 2019 Q7. The sound system suddenly stopped working, no audio output from any source including car speakers, auxiliary input, or streaming. Volume control appears responsive on the display but absolutely no sound comes through. Already checked all fuses and made sure the mute is off. Has anyone experienced similar issues and got them fixed? Particularly interested in common causes and what your repair shop found. Want to have an idea before taking it in since sound quality was perfect until yesterday. Any tips on specific components I should have them check first?

Had a similar issue with my 2017 Q5. Started with sound distortion, then complete radio silence. Initially thought it was the USB audio connection or head unit, but turned out to be more basic. Have moderate experience with car audio systems and after facing this, learned quite a bit about the common failure points. The workshop diagnosed a defective bass speaker that shorted and took out the amplifier circuit. Total repair came to 280 Euro including parts and labor. They had to remove door panels to access and replace the speaker unit, plus recalibrate the audio system. Before you take it in, could you share: Whether you noticed any distortion or crackling before the complete silence, If the issue happens with all audio sources or just specific ones, If your model has the standard or premium audio package, Any recent electrical work or battery disconnection This info would help narrow down if youre dealing with the same issue. The auxiliary input and streaming features usually work independently, so having them all fail simultaneously often points to either an amp problem or main speaker failure.

Last service was at 95000 KM, just 3 months ago. Thanks for your detailed insights. I didnt notice any distortion or crackling beforehand, the sound quality was perfect one day and complete radio silence the next. Issue affects all sources, from radio to USB audio and phone streaming. Mine has the premium audio package with 14 car speakers. No recent electrical work or battery changes. The stereo display works fine and shows track info, just zero sound output through any means including the auxiliary input. Seems the amp issue you mentioned could be the culprit given how suddenly everything went silent. Will have them check that first when I take it in.

Thanks for the additional details. After seeing your symptoms, I'm even more convinced it's likely the amplifier since it mirrors my experience, especially the sudden complete silence across all sources without prior warning signs like sound distortion. In my Q5 case, though I initially had crackling before total failure, the workshop explained that amplifier failures can happen either gradually or suddenly. The fact that your Bluetooth, auxiliary input, and all speakers went silent simultaneously really points to the amp rather than individual speaker failure. For reference, my amplifier replacement cost was higher than the earlier speaker issue, around 650 Euro for parts and labor. The diagnostic process involved checking the amp power supply and output stages. They also tested audio connectivity through each source to confirm it was indeed the amp. Quick tip: when you take it in, make sure they verify the audio output at the amp itself. In some cases, the issue can be the connection between the head unit and amplifier rather than the amp itself, which would be a less expensive fix.

Your radio system sounds completely dead which matches exactly what happened to my premium audio setup. Based on all the responses, I definitely think the amplifier is the likely culprit since every source is affected. The sudden radio silence without any warning signs seems to be a common amplifier failure pattern. Will schedule it in for diagnosis, focusing first on the amp and its connections as suggested. Good point about having them test the output directly at the amplifier, that should help determine if its a full replacement needed or just a connection issue. The fact that the volume control still responds on the display but produces no sound through any of the car speakers really supports this theory. Hope the repair costs come in closer to the connection fix range rather than the 650 Euro full amplifier replacement. Thanks everyone for helping narrow down the likely cause before I take it to the shop. Will update once I know what they find.
