Audi Q7 Sunshade Repair: Common Problems & Solutions

Need help with Q7 power sunshade issues. The sunblind in my 2011 Q7 3.0 TFSI has stopped functioning completely. It remains stuck in one position and wont respond to controls. The system shows an error code when scanned. Looking to hear from others who dealt with similar sun blind repairs, what was the actual problem and how much did the fix cost? Particularly interested in whether this typically requires full sunshade replacement or if there are other solutions. Any insights on repair time and parts availability would be helpful too. Has anyone successfully had this fixed at an independent shop or is dealer repair recommended for the window visor system?

I dealt with a very similar issue on my 2013 Q5 3.0 TFSI last summer. Having some experience with Audi electrical systems, I first suspected it might be a simple fuse or switch problem, but it turned out to be the sun blind motor itself. The rear window visor motor was completely dead, showing similar error codes during diagnostics. Initially tried resetting the system, but the sun protection mechanism remained unresponsive. After consulting with a specialized workshop, they confirmed the motor unit needed replacement. The total repair cost was 330 Euro, including parts and labor. The job took about 2 hours since they needed to remove several interior panels to access the sun blind mechanism. They installed a new motor unit and recalibrated the system. To help further with your specific case, could you share: Have you noticed any unusual sounds when trying to operate the sunshade? Does the car show any other electrical issues? Is the sun visor completely stuck or does it move slightly? Which error code exactly appears during scanning? These details would help determine if your issue is identical to what I experienced or if there might be other factors involved.

Last service was at 138000KM where they checked the car interior electrical systems. After multiple attempts to diagnose the car sunshade issue, I discovered the window visor motor continues making a grinding noise when activated. The sun blind seems to have partial movement of about 2-3cm before stopping. The error code shows P3B45 during diagnostic scans. Tried the manual reset procedure mentioned in the first response but no luck. The sunshade remains stuck regardless of multiple switch cycles. The grinding sound is concerning as it might indicate more damage than just a failed motor. The rear window sunblind is particularly frustrating during bright days. Currently using a temporary external car sunshade as a workaround until this gets fixed.

Based on the grinding noise and partial movement you described, this definitely sounds worse than my Q5 case. Those symptoms typically indicate mechanical damage inside the sun blind mechanism, possibly caused by debris or a broken component in the tracks. While my motor was completely dead and silent, your grinding noise suggests the motor is still functioning but likely fighting against damaged parts in the sun protection assembly. The 2-3cm movement followed by stopping is a telltale sign of mechanical binding. In my repair, just replacing the motor fixed everything. But given your symptoms, you might be looking at a complete sunshade assembly replacement. When I discussed similar cases with my mechanic during my repair, he mentioned that grinding noises usually mean the entire interior accessory unit needs replacement. The repair cost could be significantly higher than my 330 Euro case, possibly around 800-1000 Euro for a full assembly replacement. Labor time would also increase to 3-4 hours due to the more extensive disassembly required. That temporary external car sunshade solution is smart while you sort this out. Given the complexity, I would recommend having this repaired at a shop that specializes in Audi interior systems rather than attempting any DIY fixes that could cause more damage.

Thanks for the detailed info about the grinding noise and partial movement. That helps a lot in understanding the scope of repairs needed. The P3B45 code combined with that grinding sound definitely points toward mechanical issues beyond just the motor. Good to know the full repair cost estimate. While 800-1000 Euro is steep, it makes sense if the entire sun blind mechanism needs replacement. The UV protection is important enough to justify the repair, especially since the temporary car sunshade is just a stopgap solution. Will look into booking this at a specialized shop since the window visor system seems too complex for regular mechanics. Appreciate the tip about avoiding DIY attempts, definitely dont want to risk making the car interior damage worse. Will schedule the repair next week and update once I know the final diagnosis. The grinding noise is getting worse so better to fix it soon before more car interior components get affected.
