Audi Q8 Injector Problems Affecting Performance

Having issues with my 2018 Audi Q8 3.0 TFSI and suspect faulty injectors. Vehicle performance has dropped significantly, rough idle, stalling, higher fuel consumption and noticeable power loss. Would be great to hear from others who faced similar injection system problems with this engine. Did professional diagnosis confirm bad injectors? What was the final fix and repair costs? Especially interested in repair time and if all injectors needed replacement or just individual ones. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Had almost the identical issue with my 2016 Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI last year. The symptoms matched exactly what you describe, poor performance, rough idle and significant power loss. After experiencing several misfires, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed clogging in the injection system. The issue was primarily caused by carbon deposits in the injectors affecting proper fuel atomization and causing irregular emissions. In my case, they had to clean 2 injectors and completely replace 1 that was beyond repair. Total cost came to 515 Euro including diagnostics, parts and labor. The repair took about 4 hours, and the difference in performance was immediately noticeable. No more rough idle or power issues since then. Regular fuel system cleaning is now part of my maintenance routine to prevent future clogging. Could you share: Current mileage on your Q8, Type of gasoline you typically use, When was your last fuel system service, Check engine light status, Any diagnostic codes pulled This information would help determine if your situation is similar and whether you might need a full injector replacement or just a thorough cleaning.

Just had my latest service at 87712 KM, and it turned out my symptoms were not injector related at all. A full diagnostic revealed the misfire was caused by a faulty ignition coil. The repair shop found carbon buildup was minimal, and the gasoline injection system was functioning normally. They replaced two ignition coils for 280 Euro which resolved the rough running completely. Vehicle performance returned to normal immediately. Fuel consumption is now back to standard levels. If your symptoms persist, consider having the ignition system checked before assuming injector issues.

Thanks for the update on your Q8. Your case actually reminds me of what happened after I initially diagnosed my Q7 issue. While I first suspected injector problems, a more thorough investigation revealed I also had failing ignition coils masking as injection system problems. The similar symptoms between ignition coil and injector failures can be really tricky to diagnose. Your experience reinforces the importance of proper diagnostics before jumping to conclusions about the fuel injection system. The gasoline delivery system in these engines is quite robust, and problems are often related to the ignition components instead. Engine performance issues can stem from multiple sources, and what seems like fuel delivery problems might actually be spark-related. Worth noting that both diesel and gasoline engines can show similar symptoms of rough running and poor performance, but the root causes are often quite different. While clogging and injection problems are more common in diesel systems, gasoline engines like ours tend to have more ignition-related issues.

Thanks for everyone sharing their experiences. Wanted to close this thread with my final update. After getting my vehicle back from service, not only has the misfire completely disappeared, but engine response is crisp again. Really happy I had the proper diagnostic done instead of rushing to replace injectors. The repair shop also did a full engine analysis which confirmed the injection system was perfectly fine. Paying 280 Euro for two ignition coils was much better than unnecessarily replacing injectors. The vehicle now runs as smooth as new. For anyone finding this thread later with similar symptoms: while injector clogging can cause rough running, always get a professional diagnosis first. What seems like a fuel delivery problem could actually be something completely different. Good reminder that similar engine performance issues can have multiple causes. Really appreciate all the input that helped me avoid an unnecessary and expensive injector replacement.
