Audi Q8 Throttle Body Repair Cost & Shop Tips

My Audi Q8 (2019, gas, 80712km) has been acting up lately with reduced power output and the engine light stays on. Pretty sure its the throttle body causing trouble. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so looking for advice from others who dealt with similar symptoms. Has anyone here gotten their throttle body replaced and what was the replacement cost? Would also like to know if there are reliable shops that specialize in air intake system repairs.

Summary of the thread

The initial problem with the Audi Q8 involved reduced power output and a persistent engine light, suspected to be caused by the throttle body. However, a similar case with an Audi S6 revealed that such symptoms could also be due to a malfunctioning accelerator pedal module, which affects throttle response and sensor readings. The recommended solution is to have both the throttle body and pedal module tested to ensure accurate diagnosis, as these components work together and symptoms can be misleading. Proper diagnosis and repair, including recalibration, can resolve the issue effectively, often at a lower cost than initially quoted for unnecessary throttle body replacement.

Faced similar issues with my Audi S6 (2016) when the throttle sensor started failing. The symptoms match exactly, reduced power output, engine light, and the car went into limp mode during acceleration. Initial diagnostics pointed to the throttle body, but after thorough testing, the real culprit was the accelerator pedal module. The electronic components inside were malfunctioning, causing response delay and inconsistent throttle readings. The repair required complete replacement of the pedal module and recalibration of the air intake system. This is a serious issue that needs proper attention since it affects both performance and safety. The throttle body itself was actually fine, but the faulty signals from the pedal module made it seem like a throttle body problem. Be aware that generic OBD readings might not always pinpoint the exact issue. A proper diagnosis requires specific testing equipment for the accelerator pedal module. The repair itself takes about 3-4 hours when done by someone familiar with VAG systems. Would recommend having both the throttle body and pedal module tested before replacing any parts. These components work together, and symptoms can be misleading.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Your pedal module issue does sound very similar to what Im dealing with. Since fixing it, have you had any other related problems? Also wondering about the final cost for the pedal module replacement and recalibration. The throttle sensor on these models can be tricky, so its good to know all potential expenses before heading to the shop. My local dealer quoted me a pretty high price, but Im hoping to find a more reasonable option.

After getting the accelerator pedal module replaced and properly calibrated, the car runs perfectly with no related issues for the past months. The original symptoms completely disappeared, no more response delay, power loss, or warning lights. The total replacement cost came to 265 Euro for parts and labor, which included the pedal module replacement and necessary system recalibration. This was significantly less than what many dealers quote. The throttle sensor readings are now stable, and the air flow measurements show normal operating parameters. The repair was definitely worth it, as it resolved all the drivability issues. Just make sure whoever does the work uses proper diagnostic equipment to verify the throttle sensor and air intake systems are functioning correctly after the repair. A complete electronic calibration is essential for these components to work together properly. Many shops might push for unnecessary throttle body replacement, but getting an accurate diagnosis first can save substantial money. The pedal module repair proved to be the right fix in this case.

Based on your advice, I finally got my car fixed last week. Found a specialized shop that correctly diagnosed the pedal module as the problem. The check engine light and power issues completely cleared up after they replaced it. The mechanic showed me the faulty module and explained how it was causing erratic throttle sensor readings. Complete repair with parts and labor ran 290 Euro, which included a full system check and engine idling test. Much better than the 800 Euro the dealer wanted for a throttle body replacement I didnt need. Really glad I checked here first instead of rushing into expensive repairs. The car runs great now with smooth acceleration and normal air flow readings. No more limp mode or warning lights. Definitely keeping this shop for future repairs since they took the time to properly diagnose rather than just swapping parts.
