Audi RS7 Cruise Control Failure: Common Causes & Fixes

After searching through various wiring diagrams and checking the fuse box locations, I found the issue lies with faulty brake light switches causing the cruise control malfunction. This would explain why my dashboard lights were flickering occasionally. The cruise control module relies heavily on proper signals from the brake pedal sensor. My car has 47424 KM and last service was just brake pads and oil change. Will get the brake light switch replaced first since its a relatively inexpensive fix before exploring more complex throttle position sensor issues. Thanks for the detailed feedback about your repair cost. That really helps set my expectations for the upcoming shop visit.

Thanks for the update on your RS7. Your diagnosis about the brake light switch makes sense, as this is also what I discovered during troubleshooting my RS6. The cruise control system heavily depends on accurate brake pedal input signals. When I had my repair done, we also initially suspected just the brake light switch, but a full diagnostic revealed the additional throttle position sensor connection issue I mentioned before. Since your mileage is similar to what mine was, checking both components would be smart preventive maintenance. Quick tip from my experience: While inside the fuse box area, have them check all the related cruise control fuses and connections. In my case, some corrosion had built up on the terminals, which contributed to the intermittent dashboard light flickering you described. The brake light switch replacement should indeed be relatively affordable, likely even less than the 95 Euro I paid for my complete fix. Keep us posted on whether this resolves the issue completely.

Thanks everyone for the helpful input. Just wanted to close the loop on this issue. After taking it to the shop, they confirmed my initial suspicion about the brake light switch, but also found a blown fuse related to the cruise control system. The speed sensor was working perfectly fine. Total repair came to 85 Euro including: New brake light switch, Fuse replacement, System diagnostic, Labor costs The cruise control is now working flawlessly and the dashboard flickering has completely stopped. The throttle position sensor checked out fine during their testing, so no additional work was needed there. Much cheaper than I expected and definitely worth fixing rather than living without cruise control. For anyone else facing similar issues, start with checking these basic components before assuming the worst.

I had the same problem with my 2013 Audi RS6, and as someone with moderate experience working on cars, I can share what worked for me. The cruise control failure was traced to a faulty pedal switch connection. The throttle position sensor was getting incorrect signals due to a loose cable connection. After inspecting the steering wheel, it turned out there was no issue with the clock spring, which is often suspected in cruise control problems. The repair involved: Testing all fuse connections, Cleaning and reconnecting the pedal switch wiring, Recalibrating the throttle position sensor Total repair cost was 95 Euro at my regular workshop, mainly for labor and diagnostic time. The fix was relatively straightforward once they identified the exact connection issue. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Any other warning lights on the dashboard? Does the brake light function normally? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Was there any recent work done on the car? These details would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced or if it might be something else.
