Wow, thanks for the detailed explanation about the actuator issue. This really helps since I was worried the heater core might be failing, which would have been much worse. I got it fixed last week and they ended up replacing both the actuator and some wiring. The windshield fogging issues I was having are completely gone now. Would you mind sharing what the repair cost in your case? Just curious if I paid a fair price. Also, have you had any other climate control problems since getting it fixed?

Thanks for the update on your repair! Glad to hear the temperature regulation system is working properly now. Your case was actually simpler than mine, sounds like it was just the defrost air distribution flap that needed attention, specifically a cable or plug connection issue. My repair was more extensive and costlier since they had to replace the entire actuator unit. For your repair cost of 95 Euro, that seems very reasonable considering they resolved the ventilation system problem. In my case, due to the full actuator replacement and more complex dashboard panel disassembly, the total came to around 450 Euro. Since getting it fixed two years ago, my air distribution has worked flawlessly. No more issues with the heating or climate control. One tip though, regularly using all the different air flow settings helps keep the system working smoothly. This prevents the flaps from getting stuck in one position. Your quick action in getting it repaired likely prevented more extensive damage to other HVAC components. The fogging issues clearing up is a clear sign they found and fixed the root cause.

Thanks for the input. I finally took it to my regular shop last week after getting these suggestions. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the actuator causing problems with the ventilation system. The total repair came to 380 Euro, which included replacing the actuator and fixing some worn wiring that was affecting the blower motor. The temperature regulation works perfectly now, no more issues with windshield fogging or inconsistent heating. Really glad I asked here first since it helped me understand what to expect at the shop. The climate control is back to normal and all vents are pushing air exactly where they should. The whole repair took about 3 hours, and they showed me the old actuator which was clearly worn out. Makes sense given the mileage on my car. Should have dealt with this sooner, but at least its fixed before winter hits.

Had the same issue with my 2014 Audi S3. The symptoms matched exactly, inconsistent air distribution and weak heat output from the HVAC unit. The root cause was a failed actuator motor for the air distribution flap behind the dashboard panel. These motors control the movement of various flaps that direct air flow. When they fail, the system cannot properly route air to different vents. In my case, the repair involved: 1. Removing parts of the dashboard panel to access the actuator 2. Testing the electrical connections at the blower motor 3. Replacing the faulty actuator and recalibrating the system This was a significant repair that took about 4 hours at the shop. While not a critical safety issue, it needed fixing before winter. The heater core itself was fine, it was purely a control system problem. The error code you mentioned likely points to the same actuator issue. These problems are somewhat common in this generation of Audi HVAC units once they pass 150000KM. Consider getting the actuator diagnosed and replaced soon, as continuing to operate with a faulty air distribution system can strain other HVAC components.
