Audi S7 Transmission Slipping & No-Start Warning Signs

Thanks for sharing those details. My S7 had nearly identical symptoms, especially the rough shifting between gears and the shift lock problems. The gear linkage ended up being the main culprit, along with a failing transmission control module. Just wondering, do you remember what the total repair cost came to? My fix was quite expensive but curious how it compares. Also, has everything been working smoothly since the repair? No recurring transmission issues or warning lights? Agree completely about going to a specialist. The automatic transmission in these cars is complex and needs someone who really knows what they are doing.

Since getting my S7 properly diagnosed and repaired by a transmission specialist, the automatic transmission parking position issues have been completely resolved. The repair involved replacing the defective control unit, which came to 1000 Euro including labor and programming. The transmission now shifts perfectly smooth with no warning lights or gear shifter problems. The investment was worth it to fix the shift lock system properly rather than risk more severe transmission failure down the road. Going on 8 months now with zero transmission issues. The gear changes are crisp, parking engagement works flawlessly, and the car starts reliably every time. Having a certified specialist handle the repair made all the difference compared to my previous experiences with general mechanics. The transmission sensor readings are all normal now according to the diagnostic scans. While the repair cost was significant, it was necessary to restore proper functionality and prevent more expensive transmission repairs later.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses. Finally got my S7 back from the transmission specialist yesterday after a complete repair. The total came to 1200 Euro which included replacing the control module, transmission sensor unit, and a full system diagnostic. Going to the specialist was definitely the right call. They found additional wear on the shift lock mechanism that my previous mechanic completely missed. The repair process took about 3 days but the automatic transmission is now shifting perfectly smooth again. They also performed a complete transmission fluid flush and recalibrated all the control systems. The car starts right up now with no warning lights and the neutral position engages properly. Such a relief to have it fixed properly this time. This experience taught me to always take transmission issues seriously and get them diagnosed by a qualified specialist. The peace of mind knowing everything was done right is worth the extra cost compared to cutting corners at a general repair shop.

Had similar symptoms on my 2017 S6 last year. The automatic transmission was showing identical issues, rough shifting, inability to start, and transmission warning lights. The root cause was a defective shift lock solenoid combined with a faulty control unit. When placing the car in park position, the system would not properly engage the parking pawl mechanism. This created a safety interlock, preventing the car from starting. The repair required: Complete diagnostic scan of transmission control module, Replacement of shift lock solenoid assembly, Reprogramming of transmission control unit, Full transmission fluid flush This was a serious issue that required immediate attention as it affects core transmission functionality and vehicle safety systems. The car was undriveable until fixed since the neutral position could not be properly engaged. The automatic transmission on these models is generally reliable, but when control units start failing, it needs professional attention. Suggest taking it to a certified transmission repair specialist who can properly diagnose the exact fault codes. Important to address this quickly before it leads to more extensive transmission damage. These symptoms almost always indicate an electrical/control issue rather than mechanical transmission failure.
