Audi S8 Key Fob Failure Linked to Low Battery Warning

My Audi S8 from 2008 suddenly stopped responding to keyless entry commands. The car key fob works inconsistently when locking and unlocking. Got an error message about low voltage on the dash display. The car runs fine otherwise with 48424 km on the clock. Changed the key battery already but still having issues. Anyone dealt with something similar on their S8? Really want to avoid another expensive trip to service if its just a simple fix.

I experienced similar symptoms with my 2011 Audi A8 4.2 FSI. The key fob started working intermittently, first with unlocking issues, then completely stopped responding. After replacing the fob battery with a new one, the problem persisted. The root cause turned out to be more complex than just a dead key battery. The key fob itself needed reprogramming due to a fault in the central locking control module. When the low voltage warning appeared on the dash, it was actually indicating an issue with the car's electrical system rather than the key fob battery. The fix required professional diagnostic equipment to reprogram the key and reset the central locking system. This wasnt a DIY job due to the sophisticated electronics in these models. The battery replacement alone wouldnt solve it because the key fob lost its sync with the car's security system. Its worth getting this checked by a specialist since ignoring these symptoms could lead to being locked out completely. The repair itself wasnt particularly complicated for the technician, but required specific diagnostic tools.

Thanks for sharing that experience with the S8 key problems. It rings familiar, I had nearly identical issues with my electronic key acting up last month. My car key also needed reprogramming, just like yours. Did you remember roughly what it cost to get everything sorted? After my battery replacement attempt failed, I ended up going to a shop too. Also curious if youve had any similar problems pop up since the fix? Really helps to know these details since these auto key issues seem pretty common in our models.

Thanks for asking about the costs. Yes, I got it fixed at a shop and the total came to 37 Euro for the key fob battery replacement and reprogramming service. Since the repair, the electronic key has worked flawlessly, no more low battery warnings or unlocking issues. The key fob responds perfectly now when locking and unlocking. The technician confirmed what I suspected, just changing the dead key battery wouldnt solve the underlying programming issue. Once they properly synced the key with the cars system, all those frustrating intermittent problems disappeared completely. If your car starts showing similar symptoms again, I would suggest going straight to a qualified technician rather than trying battery replacements first. The diagnostic equipment they use can properly reset the security system and reprogram the key in one go.

Thanks for the input. After reading about similar experiences, I wanted to share how my situation turned out. I took it to an auto electronics specialist last week. The total repair came to 180 Euro, which included diagnostics, reprogramming and a system reset. Turns out my central locking module needed recalibration beyond just the key fob battery issue. The technician explained that even after changing the battery, the electronic key had lost synchronization with the cars security system. They used specialized equipment to reprogram everything. The whole process took about an hour. Now the keyless entry works perfectly again, no more inconsistent locking or unlocking. The low voltage warning has disappeared from the dash too. Really glad I got it properly diagnosed instead of continuing to try simple fixes. For anyone else facing similar auto key problems, investing in proper diagnostics definitely saved me from potential headaches down the road.
