Audi S8 Keyless Entry Failure, Door System Alert

Having issues with my 2017 Audi S8 locking system. The keyless access stopped working completely and the car shows errors in the memory. I suspect the door electronics or door actuator might be faulty, but not entirely sure. Has anyone encountered similar problems with their S8? Would be great to hear what the actual issue was and how your workshop fixed it. Looking particularly for information about sensor issues or door handle problems that caused keyless failure. Thanks for any insights about the repair process and costs involved.

Summary of the thread

The 2017 Audi S8 is experiencing a keyless entry failure on the driver side door, with error code B101900 indicating a potential door mechanism issue. The problem is suspected to be related to faulty door electronics or actuator, possibly due to corrosion in the wiring connections. A similar issue in an Audi S7 was resolved by cleaning the connector, replacing a section of the wiring harness, and securing a loose mounting bracket inside the door mechanism. The suggested solution involves inspecting the wiring harness and door handle electronics for corrosion and mechanical issues, focusing on the driver side where the problem is localized.

I had a very similar issue with my 2019 Audi S7, and I have some experience working on these models. The door mechanism problem turned out to be quite straightforward despite initially seeming complex. The electric door system showed similar error codes, and the keyless entry completely failed. After taking it to a workshop, they diagnosed a faulty connection in the door actuator wiring. There was corrosion in one of the main plug connections that disrupted the signal between the door switch and the central locking system. The fix involved cleaning the connector and replacing a section of the wiring harness. Total cost was 95 Euro including diagnostics. The repair took about an hour, and the keyless system has worked flawlessly since then. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Are all doors affected or just one? Does the traditional key fob button still work? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Are there any specific error codes showing? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with my door mechanism problem or if it might be something different in the locking system.

My car has 169179 KM and had its last service 3 months ago. Thanks for the detailed response. To answer your questions, only the driver side door is affected, and yes, the key fob buttons still work normally. The keyless entry system fails only on the driver door where the door electronics seem unresponsive. No other electrical issues noticed. The error code shown is B101900 which appears to be related to the door mechanism. The passenger doors and trunk all work fine with the keyless system. Given this matches your experience with the corroded connection, I will have the workshop check the wiring harness and door actuator specifically. Worth noting that the door handle itself feels slightly loose compared to the other doors, so there might be a mechanical component to investigate as well.

Thanks for those additional details. Yes, that matches exactly what happened with my S7, same error code and symptoms. The loose door handle you mentioned is actually a common indicator of this issue in these models. Based on the mileage and the fact that only the driver door is affected, it strongly suggests the door mechanism wiring problem I encountered. The door handle electronics are more exposed to weather and frequent use on the driver side, making it prone to connection issues. In my case, the workshop also noticed the door handle had some play when they were fixing the wiring. They found that a mounting bracket inside the door mechanism had worked loose, which was putting extra strain on the wiring harness. They secured the bracket while replacing the damaged wiring section. The door switch and handle assembly are actually part of one unit in these models, so when the connection deteriorates, it affects the entire keyless entry function for that door. Since your other doors work fine, this really points to a localized issue in the driver door handle electronics rather than a central locking system problem. The repair should be fairly straightforward. The wiring harness replacement and handle tightening took about an hour in my case. Just make sure they check both the electrical connections and the mechanical mounting of the door handle unit.

The wiring issue you described makes perfect sense, and matches my symptoms exactly. It is reassuring to know this can be fixed without replacing the entire door actuator unit. I will schedule an appointment and have them inspect the door handle and check for corrosion in the wiring connections. The fact that only the driver side is affected and the loose handle feeling matches your experience gives me confidence about the diagnosis. Will ask them specifically to inspect the mounting bracket you mentioned, since the strain on the wiring harness could definitely be causing the intermittent keyless entry failure. The door mechanism repair cost seems reasonable too, especially compared to what I feared might be needed. Thanks for sharing such specific details about your repair experience. This has helped narrow down exactly what to have the workshop check in the locking system. I will update once they complete the repair to confirm if it was indeed the same wiring harness issue.
