Thanks for sharing those details about the sunroof repair. The symptoms and repair steps match exactly what I experienced. Would you mind sharing what the total cost was for your sunroof troubleshooting and repairs? Wondering if prices have changed much since then. Also curious if youve had any other sunroof control issues pop up after getting it fixed? My Audi S8 is currently at the shop and Im trying to budget appropriately for this repair.

Got the repairs done on my A8 and the final bill was 75 Euro for the control module coding fix. Much cheaper than expected since the sunroof not initialized error turned out to be just a software issue. The mechanic performed a sunroof calibration which solved both the sunroof mechanism and sunblind problems. After the car sunroof reset, everything has worked perfectly for the past year with no recurring issues. The system just needed proper initialization to restore normal function. Really glad it didnt require replacing any physical components like in some other cases. A proper diagnostic scan was key, saved me from unnecessary parts replacement. The vehicle sunroof system sometimes just needs recalibration rather than major repairs.

Just got my S8 back from the shop yesterday and wanted to close the loop here. My sunroof troubleshooting experience was a bit different than expected. The sunroof system needed more than just a reset, turned out the motor was damaged and several microswitches were corroded. Total repair came to 890 Euro including: New sunroof motor, Switch replacement, Control module recalibration, Labor costs The mechanic I found specializes in German cars and had the right diagnostic equipment for proper sunroof control testing. They completed everything in 2 days. The sunroof reset and recalibration were done after installing the new parts. Both the sunroof mechanism and sunblind are working smoothly now. While the cost was higher than hoped, having it properly fixed by a specialist was worth it to avoid future issues. Thanks for the helpful advice.

Had the same sunroof troubleshooting situation with my 2004 Audi A8 4.2. The sunroof calibration process was necessary after the control module lost its initialization settings. The vehicle sunroof system needed a complete diagnostic scan which revealed multiple fault codes in the sunroof control module. The main issues were worn limit switches and a failing motor assembly within the sunroof mechanism. The repair required: Full sunroof mechanism removal, Replacement of drive motor, New limit switches installation, Complete system recalibration, Control module reprogramming This was a serious repair job requiring specialized Audi diagnostic equipment. The car sunroof system has complex electronics that must be properly coded to work with the vehicle computer system. Regular repair shops often lack the specific tools needed for proper calibration. The sunblind issue is typically connected to the main sunroof failure, both systems share the same control module. Would strongly recommend having this serviced at a shop with proper diagnostic capabilities and experience with Audi sunroof systems.
