Audi SQ5 Audio System Dead: Troubleshooting Guide

Having trouble with complete radio silence in my 2014 SQ5. The sound system has zero audio output, no response from radio, Bluetooth or any other audio source. Already checked fuses and battery connections, but the issue persists. Looking for advice from others who faced similar problems, especially regarding repair costs and which components needed replacement. Did you find it was an amplifier issue, head unit problem, or something else? Would appreciate hearing about successful fixes and approximate repair times at the workshop.

Having dealt with a similar sound system failure in my 2012 S4, I can share my moderate expertise with Audi audio systems. The symptoms match exactly what I experienced, complete audio silence across all inputs, whether USB audio, radio, or Bluetooth. After basic troubleshooting like checking connections and fuses, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a defective bass speaker that was causing a short in the system. This was shutting down the entire audio output as a protective measure. The repair took about 4 hours and cost 280 Euro including parts and labor. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you share: Whether the head unit display still works normally, If you hear any crackling sound when adjusting volume control, Whether the sound disappeared suddenly or gradually, If there was any sound distortion before the complete failure These details would help determine if your issue is similar to what I encountered. The auxiliary input and other connection points should also be checked for damage, as they can sometimes cause system-wide failures. While my case was solved with a speaker replacement, these symptoms can have multiple causes in Audi systems. Having this information would help narrow down the likely culprit in your SQ5.

Last service was at 64118 KM. Wanted to follow up and provide those details for better diagnosis: The head unit display works perfectly normal with no visual issues. No crackling sounds when adjusting volume, just complete silence through all car speakers. The sound cut out suddenly during normal operation without any prior warning or distortion. The Bluetooth connection still shows as active and paired, and auxiliary input appears to be recognized when plugged in, but zero audio output from any source. All display functions and controls remain responsive, just no sound whatsoever. Given these symptoms and what others have shared, it seems the amplifier might be the prime suspect rather than individual speakers or the head unit itself. Would be helpful to know what diagnostic steps I should prepare for at the workshop.

Based on those additional details, I'm even more convinced your issue differs from my speaker failure case. The sudden complete audio loss without warning, combined with normally functioning displays and connections, strongly points to an amplifier failure rather than the speaker short I experienced in my S4. The key difference is that your Bluetooth connectivity and USB audio recognition remain functional, while the total radio silence affects all outputs simultaneously. This matches a classic amplifier fault pattern rather than my speaker issue which showed some intermittent crackling before failing. My initial speaker diagnosis started similarly with the workshop doing a full audio system diagnostic scan, but they quickly identified speaker impedance issues. In your case, they should focus testing on the amplifier first since all other components appear to communicate properly. For reference, if it is the amplifier, repair costs typically range from 400 Euro-800 Euro depending on whether replacement or repair is needed. The labor time is usually 2-3 hours since the amplifier location requires some interior trim removal for access. I would suggest having the workshop specifically: Run a complete sound system diagnostic scan, Test amplifier power supply and ground connections, Check amplifier output on each channel, Verify head unit output signals This should quickly confirm whether the amplifier is indeed the source of the sound quality issues.

The amplifier diagnosis makes sense given those test points. Here are the details of my current situation and next steps: Just checked the warranty coverage and unfortunately it expired last year. Called the workshop and booked an appointment for next week. They quoted 90 Euro for the initial diagnostic scan of the sound system and amplifier testing. What caught my attention from your response was the part about interior trim removal being needed to access the amplifier. With labor costs that high, I might consider getting a second opinion if they determine the full amplifier needs replacement rather than repair. Meanwhile, I did one final check of all audio settings through the head unit menus and tried a full system reset, but still getting complete silence from all car speakers. At least the Bluetooth and auxiliary input recognition confirms the head unit itself is likely fine. Will update once I get the official diagnosis. Really hoping its just loose connections or something simpler than a full amplifier replacement, but preparing for the worst given how suddenly everything went silent.
