Audi TT Central Locking Failure: Key Fob Dead Zone

Having trouble with my 2006 Audi TT central locking system. The keyless entry stopped working completely, cant lock or unlock any doors using the key fob. The remote locking was working fine until yesterday. Already checked the key fob battery and its good. The car computer shows a stored error related to the locking mechanism. Has anyone dealt with similar central locking failures? Really interested in what the actual problem was and the repair costs. Any common weak points in this system I should look into first? Thanks for any insights on fixing this.

Based on my experience with a 2008 Audi A4 that had a similar central locking problem, this sounds very familiar. I have some experience working on basic car electronics but usually leave complex issues to professionals. The keyless entry system in these Audis can fail due to faulty wiring connections. In my case, the key fob signal was fine, but the connection between the central locking control unit and the door locking mechanism had deteriorated. The workshop found corroded plug contacts were preventing proper communication. The fix involved: Testing the central control module connections, Cleaning the corroded contacts, Replacing one damaged wire connector, Reprogramming the locking system Total repair cost was 95 Euro, mainly for labor and the new connector. Much better than replacing the entire control unit. Before spending money on repairs, could you share: Have you checked the fuse box for any blown fuses related to central locking? Does the car alarm still work normally? Can you lock/unlock manually with the physical key? Are there any other electrical issues like window controls acting up? This info would help narrow down if you are facing the same connection problem or something else in the system.

Thanks for sharing your experience. After checking my service records from last month at 109007 KM, I can add some helpful details. When testing the key fob signals with a basic diagnostic tool, I found the remote locking receiver is getting power but not processing commands correctly. The car alarm still activates normally when using the mechanical key. I located the central locking fuse in the fuse box, it was not blown but I noticed some corrosion on the terminals. Cleaning these contacts made no difference. The locking mechanism in the driver door seems to work smoothly with the physical key, ruling out mechanical issues. Given these symptoms and the stored error code, it seems the control module itself might be the culprit rather than just wiring. Would appreciate if anyone has experience with control module replacement costs for these models.

Thanks for those extra details about your TT. Your symptoms do sound a lot like what I experienced when my control module was failing. The key difference is that in my case, cleaning the corroded fuse terminals actually restored function temporarily. Based on your testing showing power but no command processing, plus working mechanical function, a faulty central locking control module is very likely. The security system still working independently supports this diagnosis. When my control module finally failed completely, I explored several options: Rebuilt module: 180 Euro, Used module: 120 Euro plus programming, New OEM module: 450 Euro plus programming I went with a rebuilt unit since used ones often develop the same issues. The repair including programming cost 280 Euro total. The keyless entry system has worked flawlessly since then. The central locking module in these models is sensitive to moisture damage. After replacement, make sure the door seals are intact and drain holes are clear to prevent future issues with the security system components. Would suggest having a shop verify the diagnosis with proper diagnostic equipment before ordering parts. Sometimes similar symptoms can come from the door lock actuators themselves.

Thanks for the detailed feedback about control module repairs. After collecting quotes from several shops, I found quite a range in pricing. The diagnostic fees alone varied from 45 Euro to 120 Euro. Most shops confirmed your assessment about the central locking control module being the likely culprit. I decided to go with a reputable independent shop that specializes in Audi electronics. They can supply a rebuilt control module with a 2-year warranty for 195 Euro plus 85 Euro for programming and installation. This seems reasonable compared to the dealership quote of 520 Euro for a new unit. The shop also mentioned they will check all door lock actuators and wiring connections during installation to prevent future keyless entry problems. They recommended inspecting the door seals and drain channels as you suggested. Will schedule the repair next week and update the thread once its done. The remote locking is a feature I really miss having, especially in bad weather. Glad to know the repair should provide a long-term fix rather than just a temporary solution. Good tip about avoiding used modules. The warranty on the rebuilt unit provides peace of mind that the car security system will work reliably after repair.
