Audi TT convertible starts badly

Longer cold start time

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Engine shuts off by itself

Loss of engine power

Car won't start

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my 2010 Audi TT Diesel. The check engine light flashes, the engine just stalls from time to time, takes longer to start when cold, has lost power and runs rough. It also jerks when accelerating and sometimes won't start at all. I thought maybe the fuel pump was faulty. Has anyone here ever had similar symptoms and can give me some troubleshooting tips? I am particularly interested in how the problem was solved in a workshop and what experiences you have had with it. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2008 Audi A3 diesel. I'm not a professional, but I do know a bit about cars. I went to my local garage and after a few tests they said that the fault could be with the software values for the fuel pump. Updating the software then fixed the problem and I didn't have to replace anything. It cost me around 45 euros. Can you please give me more details about your Audi TT? Then I might be able to help you better. What exactly happens immediately before the engine stalls or won't start? Perhaps there are a few more symptoms that could help us.

Hi, thanks for your answer! So before the engine stalls, there is usually a kind of jerking. And if it doesn't start, the starter turns but the engine doesn't ignite. This happens especially when it is still cold. I already have 167890 km on the clock, the last service was about 4,000 km ago, everything was still ok then. Maybe you're right and it's the software, I'll have that checked out.

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! Sounds like your engine is really struggling to get enough fuel. Your answer really suggests that it could be the software - if the starter turns but the engine doesn't fire, it could be that the software values for the injection aren't calibrated correctly. This can lead to problems, especially when the engine is cold. I would really recommend having this checked by a garage. The update totally helped with my A3, maybe it's similar with your TT. Hopefully it's nothing serious and you don't have to replace anything. But don't worry, even if it is the fuel pump - changing it is usually not as expensive as having to repair the engine. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get the problem under control soon!

Hey, you've really helped me, I don't feel so stressed now. I also think it would be a good idea to go to a garage and have everything checked before it gets any worse. It would be great if it only needs a software update. But even if the pump needs replacing, I'd be pretty relieved as long as I don't have to repair the whole engine. I'll let you know the outcome once I've been to the garage! Thanks again for your support and advice!

The problems with your Audi TT Diesel may stem from faulty fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, dirty injectors, bad ignition coils, or sensor issues (MAF, EGR). A diagnostic scan and professional inspection are recommended for precise troubleshooting and repair. Hope this helps!
