Audi TT Wiper System Complete Failure: Causes & Fixes
Summary of the thread
The 2017 Audi TT experienced a complete failure of the windshield wipers, with no response or sound when the wiper switch was activated, accompanied by an error message. The issue was traced to a corroded wiring connection near the rain sensor, disrupting the signal between the wiper switch and motor. Cleaning the connections and replacing a damaged wire section resolved the problem, restoring full functionality to the wipers and cruise control. This solution, costing 115 Euro and taking under 3 hours, highlights the importance of checking wiring connections before considering more expensive component replacements.

With 135196 KM on the clock, I can confirm the wiper switch issue got resolved. The wiper motor actually turned out to be fine. Like many suggested, it was the corroded wiring connection causing the problem. A thorough cleaning of the connections and replacement of one damaged wire section fixed it completely. The repair cost 115 Euro and took less than 3 hours. The windshield wipers now work perfectly, including all speed settings and the cruise control functions normally too. Definitely worth checking the wiring before replacing more expensive components.

Good to hear you got it sorted. Its exactly what I suspected based on my similar experience with corroded wiring on my TTS. The symptoms were identical, and the repair cost was in the same range, I paid 95 Euro compared to your 115 Euro. These wiring issues are quite common with the windshield wiper system on these models. The connection points near the rain sensor are particularly prone to corrosion, which can disrupt signals between the wiper switch and wiper motor. Its worth noting that when the cruise control works normally after the repair, it confirms the issue was isolated to the wiper circuit rather than a more complex electrical problem. Regular inspection of these connections could prevent similar issues in the future. The repair cost and time frame matches my experience perfectly, these wiring fixes typically take 2-3 hours and cost between 90-120 Euro depending on the extent of corrosion and whether any additional wiring needs replacement.

Thanks for sharing the resolution. After putting 135196 KM on my TT, I was worried the wiper motor had failed, but the actual fix was much simpler. The corroded wiring connection was causing the windshield wipers to malfunction completely. After cleaning the connections and replacing one damaged section of wire, everything works perfectly again, all wiper switch speeds, cruise control, and other functions are back to normal. Total repair cost was 115 Euro and took under 3 hours, which seems reasonable compared to what a new motor would have cost. For anyone else facing similar issues with their wipers not responding to the wiper switch, definitely have the wiring connections checked first before replacing more expensive components. The quick and affordable fix was exactly what I needed to get back on the road.

Having moderate experience with Audi repairs, I faced a very similar issue with my 2015 Audi TTS. The windshield wipers completely stopped responding, showing an error message just like yours. After inspection, the workshop found that the wiring harness connection near the rain sensor had become loose and corroded. The repair involved cleaning the connections and replacing a section of the damaged wiring. Total cost was 95 Euro and the repair took about 2 hours. The symptoms match exactly, no response when using the wiper switch, no motor sound, and error messages. In these cases, its often either the wiring harness connection or the wiper motor itself, though your rain sensor could also be the culprit. Before suggesting more specific troubleshooting steps, could you share: Does the washer fluid spray function still work? Did the wipers stop suddenly or gradually become unreliable? Can you hear any clicking sound when operating the turn signal? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? These details would help determine if its isolated to the wiper system or potentially a broader electrical issue.
