Audio & Nav Dead: Infiniti M Hybrid System Failure Fix
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid experiencing a complete failure of both the navigation and audio systems, suspected to be related to an audio signal error. A similar issue was resolved in a 2014 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid by replacing the faulty display unit, which was identified as the root cause. Temporary solutions like disconnecting the battery for a reset and using a phone mount with a Bluetooth speaker were suggested while waiting for the repair. The replacement of the display unit is recommended as a long-term fix, with the expectation of restoring full functionality.

Hey, thanks for the info! Mine's actually at 149845 KM and had its last service just recently. Wasn't having any warning signs really it just died suddenly during my morning commute. The audio cut out first, then the nav screen went black a few minutes later. Super annoying! I'll definitely check out getting the display assembly looked at. Did you find any temporary fixes while waiting for the repair? It's my daily driver so I'm hoping to figure something out soon.

Hey again! Yeah, I totally get how frustrating this is, especially when it's your daily driver. In my case, I actually tried a few temporary fixes while waiting for the part to arrive not much success though, to be honest. I tried disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes (kind of like a hard reset), which got the system working again for maybe a day or two before it died again. Also tried clearing the navigation system cache, but that didn't help much either. The only semi-reliable workaround I found was using my phone mount and a Bluetooth speaker for navigation and music. Not ideal, but it got me through the week until the repair was done. The symptoms you're describing are exactly what happened to mine audio cutting out first, then the nav screen. Classic display unit failure in these Infinitis, unfortunately. Just a heads up when I got mine fixed, the part took about 4 days to arrive. Might want to plan ahead for that. But honestly, given how similar your symptoms are to what I experienced, I'm pretty confident it's the same issue. The good news is that once it's fixed, it should be good to go for years. Mine's been working perfectly since the repair, and that was about 18 months ago now.

Thanks so much for all these details! This definitely sounds like what I'm dealing with. I'll try that battery disconnect trick tonight even if it only works temporarily, it'd be nice to have the system back for a bit. Already ordered a phone mount on Amazon, so that'll be my backup plan while I get this sorted. I'll give my mechanic a heads up about the display unit and see if they can start looking for the part. Really appreciate you sharing your experience at least now I know what I'm probably dealing with and can plan accordingly. Hope mine stays fixed for 18 months like yours after the repair!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid (I also test-drove the Q70 back then). I have some experience working on cars, mostly basic maintenance stuff. My display went completely dead both nav and audio. Took it to my regular workshop (JB Auto) and they diagnosed it as a faulty display unit. Had to replace the entire display assembly, which set me back about 725€. Fixed the problem completely though. What's your exact model spec and mileage? Also, did you notice any warning signs before it died completely? This info would help me tell if you're dealing with the same issue I had. Quick side note these units can sometimes fail due to heat exposure, so might be worth checking if your car is regularly parked in direct sunlight.
