Auris Automatic Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Toyota Auris with approximately 167,000 km is experiencing automatic transmission issues, including improper shifting and the transmission indicator light activating. The problem may be linked to undervoltage affecting the transmission control unit, as suggested by a similar case. The solution involved diagnosing the issue at a workshop, where they found worn-out transmission oil and charged the battery, resolving the shifting problems.

Undervoltage, huh? That's interesting! I never would have thought of that. So, how did you figure out it was undervoltage, and what did you have to do to fix it? My car battery is fairly new, but how do I know if it's really performing correctly? Also, what's a transmission control unit?

Well, a transmission control unit (TCU) is basically the computer that tells your automatic gearbox when to shift. If it's not getting the right voltage, it can get confused and cause all sorts of problems. In my case, the workshop diagnosed it. I would suggest getting your car properly checked at a workshop – they can run diagnostics and see if undervoltage is the culprit. It's a much better approach than guessing and replacing parts blindly.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was undervoltage causing the transmission to act up because the automatic transmission oil was worn out! They replaced the oil and charged the battery, and now it seems to be shifting smoothly again. Cost me around 240€. I really appreciate you sharing your experience; it saved me a lot of headache!

Sounds rough! I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, although it was a much older model. The symptoms were almost identical – weird shifting, warning lights, the whole shebang. In my case, it turned out to be undervoltage that was messing with the transmission control unit. Has your battery been checked recently? Automatic gearboxes can be very sensitive to voltage fluctuations.
