Auris belt tensioner issue

Hi, I've got a 2014 Toyota Auris diesel with about 159k km on the clock. I think I've got a bad belt tensioner. The belt-handover no longer works. Sounds like the belt bringer itself is defective. Anyone experienced this?

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Auris. Is it making a squealing noise, especially when the engine is cold? Check the tensioner pulley, could be worn. Also, have you noticed any unusual engine noise? The belt drive might be misaligned due to the tensioner.

Yeah, I'm getting a squeal, mostly when the weather is colder. So, you think it is likely the tensioner pulley? What exactly did you do to fix yours?

Yep, sounds very similar to what I experienced. It's tricky to diagnose properly without the right tools. I'd say get it checked out at a workshop. They'll be able to confirm if it's the tensioner and sort it out properly. A defective belt tensioner can cause major headaches down the road.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop and you were spot on. Quoted 455€ for the repair. Replacing the belt tensioner fixed the issue.
