Auris Brake Light Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Toyota Auris owner experienced an issue with the brake lights not functioning properly, accompanied by an error message on the infotainment system. The bulbs were checked and found to be fine, leading to the suspicion that the brake light switch might be the cause. After further investigation, it was discovered that the brake light switch was misadjusted, likely due to user error during cleaning, and adjusting it resolved the issue.

The error message is pretty generic, something like 'Check brake light system'. It seems totally random, not related to hard braking or anything like that. Any ideas?

Yeah, that sounds exactly like what happened to mine. In the end, it turned out to be the brake light switch. It's probably best to get it checked out at a workshop to be sure.

Thanks for the info! I checked the switch myself and it was misadjusted and therefore not working. After properly adjusting it everything went back to normal. Seems like the error was caused by user error when cleaning the pedal area. Anyway, thanks for your help!

Hey, I have an Auris too, and I had a similar issue a while back. Was the error message very specific? Did it happen after braking hard, or was it random?
