Thanks for the info. Where was the fuel composition sensor located in the Opel Insignia's engine bay? Do you remember the specific error codes it triggered? This would help me compare with the Toyota Auris's diagnostic framework.

I don't remember the exact location on the Insignia. A workshop did the repair. But I recall the error codes were for 'fuel mixture malfunction' and 'sensor circuit range/performance'. Given the similarities, get a technician to do a diagnostic check. It could be a bad sensor or a wiring issue. Rule out the simple things first before getting into more complex repairs.

Thanks for the advice. I had a technician inspect the Auris. It was a defective cable connection to the fuel pressure regulator. The repair was 95€ for cable replacement and recalibration. The engine runs perfectly now. Thanks again for your help.

I had something similar with my Opel Insignia, but it was a petrol engine. It sounds like a faulty fuel composition sensor sending bad data to the ECU. The engine would try to compensate with incorrect fuel adjustments, which caused engine knock and stalling. Check the sensor readings with a live data stream to see if they're accurate. Also, check the fuel filter because a clogged filter can cause mixture problems.
